Page 6 of The Heart Stealer

The poor girl has obviously had her heart smashed to pieces. Like I’d make a move.

Jumping off the couch, I mutter that I’m going to take a shower, but then the front door pops open and the rest of the guys pile in the door.

I instantly worry that it’s all going to be too much for Rachel and shift without thinking, blocking the guys’ view of the couch.

“’Sup, bitches!” Casey swans into the room, his swagger confident and just a little drunk. He always has one too many.

“Hey-yo.” Ethan raises his hand in greeting, not even fighting a grin when Mick groans from the couch.

Asher gives him a weird look before dumping his keys on the kitchen counter and shedding his coat, which probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. He dumps it on the bar stool and goes to the fridge while my body tenses.

Casey wanders toward the couch, no doubt set on starting up a late-night gaming session.

“Bax, you in, man?”

A distant voice replies from down the hallway, “Yep, set it up!”

About the only time Baxter will voluntarily hang out in the living room is when he and Casey are gaming together. And I mean only Casey and him. The guy’s not a socialite, and if he walks in and finds Rachel in his spot, he’s not gonna be happy about it.

He already struggles living with Mikayla, although he still voted to let her stay. The guy’s got a good heart, he just likes to keep to himself. And I think he’s scared of girls.

The thought makes me grin, but then Casey’s nearly at the couch and?—

“Hel-lo.”

Shit. I clench my jaw, crossing my arms and firing a warning look at him, but he doesn’t even notice.

He’s already jumping around Mick, a broad smile taking over his face as he perches on the coffee table and extends his hand to Rachel.

She’s obviously eyeing up the tattooed beast with caution, sharing a quick glance with Mick before shaking his hand.

“You must be Casey.”

“That I am.” His chest puffs out, and Mick sits forward, slapping her palm against his shirt.

“Okay, peacock. Put those feathers away. She’s not interested.”

Casey glances at lil’ mouse, feigning offense. “How the fuck would you know? She’s probably sitting here lost for words because she’s so taken with my beauty.”

Rachel’s lips twitch as Mikayla fails to hide her laughter.

“You are?—”

“Unbelievably gorgeous? Charming? Funny? The sexiest man in this house?”

She leans forward, slapping him on the knee as she stands. “None of the above.”

“You slay me.” He places a hand over his heart, then turns back to Rachel and points his thumb at Mick. “Do you know this woman?”

Rachel can’t help a grin, and my stomach twists. Shit, Casey is a piece of work… although it’s nice to see Rachel smile. She has a beautiful face, and it’s even more enchanting?—

Enchanting? What the hell is wrong with me?

She’s gorgeous, okay? And her smile makes it even better.

“She’s my best friend,” Rachel murmurs.

“Which means you must be Ray-Ray.” Casey leans back, wagging his finger at her. “You are a stunner.”
