Page 4 of Keeping Eveline

He didn’t care that he was standing in the lobby of his business swearing. He wanted Eveline gone, and if being rude and obnoxious was the way to achieve it, he’d do it every day.

Her chin lifted, and her dark brown eyes narrowed. “You don’t need to be an asshole, Kyle.”

Was that a snort from Yolanda?

Ox glanced at his receptionist, and she wasn’t doing anything to hide her amusement at the show he and Eveline had on display.

Fuck!

“Hold my calls,” he bit out to his receptionist as he strode over and grabbed Eveline’s arm. “Let’s go.” The second his fingers connected with her skin, a burn started and zoomed through him at supersonic speed. Any thought he had some sort of control, flew out the window as his dick hardened behind his zipper.

Fuck, I should never have touched her.

Fortunately for him, Eveline shook off his hold. “Excuse me?” She dug her sky-high heels into the carpet, and surprisingly, she didn’t snap an ankle.

“You want to talk. Let’s talk.” Ox quirked an eyebrow, daring her to contradict him.

“Fine.” She huffed out, her glare throwing daggers, before she started off down the hall, even though Eveline probably had no idea where she was going.

“Would you like me to bring in some coffee, Kyle?” Yolanda queried, mirth in every word she spoke.

“No. She won’t be here long.”

As much as his body craved for him to lock his door, plant her against the back of it before lifting her skirt and taking her, he planned to get her out of his office as quickly as possible.

Ox didn’t wait for Yolanda to acknowledge his words. He followed Eveline, her cherry blossom scent teasing his senses. He was going to have to spray his office with air freshener, otherwise he wouldn’t get anything done. He’d be too busy sniffing the air in an attempt to keep her close.

You’re pathetic.

“Fuck me,” he muttered. He needed to stop thinking with his dick and start thinking with his brain. His brain had kept him alive on every single mission he’d been on as a Delta. The same brain that knew when trouble was about to strike before it even happened.

“No, thank you. Did that once, and once was more than enough,” Eveline snapped.

“What?” he asked. He’d caught up with Eveline, and she was beside him. The walk to his office from the reception area wasn’t long, but right this minute, Ox wanted it to be miles longer. How was he going to cope with her in the confines of his office?

“You said, ‘fuck me.’ So, I answered.” A simple shrug gave the impression the comment was off the cuff, but the light pink hue in her cheeks told a completely different story.

His lips twitched against his will, and Ox fought the urge to laugh. One of the things that’d drawn him to her was her quick wit, and that hadn’t changed in their time apart.

Ox closed the distance between them so he could brush his chest against her breasts, despite the fact he’d probably regret it. He leaned down and whispered. “I do believe you came four times, which would suggest that once definitely wasn’t enough for you.” He straightened and stepped away before opening the door to his office. “After you.” He waved her through.

Eveline didn’t move, and a faraway look had entered her eyes, as though she were remembering the night they’d spent together.

For the first two weeks after their night together, she’d been all he’d been able to dream about. The sound of her cries of completion echoing around his mind as he woke up, his dick tenting his sheets, and him alone in his bed. Each time, he hated that she took up so much of his thoughts.

It’d only been sheer will that Ox had somehow turned his mind around and now he didn’t dream of her, but he suspected after this meeting, she’d have a starring role in all over again.

“Do you want to talk to me or not, Eveline?” He kept his voice harsh, to remind, not only himself, but her as well that whatever happened in the next few minutes, it wouldn’t be leading to a repeat performance in the bedroom, no matter how much he might want one.

I’ve made a huge mistake.

Eveline couldn’t shake the thought as she stood outside Kyle’s office, her body still reacting to what he’d whispered in her ear. How she’d hidden the shiver the slight brush of his lips against her flesh had caused was a minor miracle.

Now her body was alight with desire. A desire she’d only ever felt once before—the night she’d spent with the man before her.

They might’ve only met, but he’d played her body as if he’d known her a lifetime. One-night stands weren’t her usual Modis Operandi, but all it had taken was one dance with the man and she’d been putty in his hands.

“Eveline?”
