Page 43 of Keeping Eveline

There weren’t a lot of names, and as Randall wasn’t that common of a name, it would stand out, wouldn’t it?

While she was recovered from her assault, there were times if she pushed herself, her head would begin to hurt and a dull hammering would start up.

Giving it a shake, Eveline returned her attention back to Kyle. “No. I really don’t. I can’t remember every name of the people Gerald had dealings with, but I don’t recall seeing a Randall Maxwell on any lists.”

Kyle nodded again, as if satisfied with her answer. “Okay. I know you said you wanted to go shopping, but are you up to a visit to the office?”

Was he saying that after the visit they’d go shopping, or was this a consolation prize and shopping was off the list?

“Depends,” she countered.

“On what?” The dark blue in his gaze had lightened now that he’d lost his intense manner.

She’d never known someone to have such expressive eyes. Or she hadn’t been paying attention to people’s eyes when she’d been with them.

“I don’t mind going to the office with you if I can go shopping.”

“You’re not going shopping alone,” he growled, and once again, he was back to being intense.

Didn’t that get exhausting?

The constant back and forth of his energy and emotion. Or didn’t he know that he was doing it, and this was how he was normally.

“I get that. And I understand, even if you think I don’t. But I want to feel normal. Do something that I would normally do.”

Kyle snagged her hand, tugging her forward.

Eveline didn’t need much encouragement to get close to him again.

“I get it. And yes, after I’ve talked to Cass and the guys and we’ve got a plan of action in place, I’ll go shopping with you and gladly carry all the bags you need me to.”

Happiness and excitement bubbled up inside of her. She should be concerned about the person chasing her but like she’d told Kyle—she wanted to do something that everyone was able to do freely and without worry. “Thank you.” Eveline went up on tiptoe and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. “I’ll be ready in fifteen.” She spun around and stalked out of his office, heading toward her room—well Kyle’s room, not hers. Although, she wouldn’t mind it if it were.

Eveline stopped mid-step.

No way should she be thinking about taking ownership of anything in Kyle’s apartment. She was there temporarily, and she’d do well to remember that.

As Ox and Eveline traveled up the elevator to the floor Alliez’s office was on, he tried not to let the cherry blossom scent of Eveline’s perfume tempt him into pushing her into the corner of the small cart and devouring her mouth.

Since she’d asked him to kiss her at his place, he’d been wanting nothing more than to sample her again.

However, her safety was paramount, and not for one second did he believe she was out of danger. Even if she were, there was no way he’d send her back to her home.

The place that had been violated in the most atrocious of ways. Not to mention she didn’t have anything to sit or sleep on as all her furniture had been ruined.

“Will everyone question why I’m with you?” Eveline asked as the doors opened, and they stepped out.

“Nope. And if they did, they know not ask that shit in front of me.” Ox wasn’t worried about what his employees would say.

There wasn’t any doubt that there wouldn’t be a few raised eyebrows, but they were all aware that she’d been staying with him since the night of her attack. If anyone wanted to ask him questions, they could’ve done so over the last few days.

Ox held the door open for her, and as she swept into the reception area, the skirt of her flirty lemon-colored sundress flicked up in a teasing way.

She was completely unaware of the glimpse of thigh she’d just flashed in his direction, and his dick immediately responded.

Great, he was going to walk into his office, the place where he was in charge and known to be as unmoving as his nickname, sporting a hard-on. Picturing ice and snow and the harshness of the Afghanistan mountains in winter did little to temper his desire, but he softened a little bit.

“Morning, Yolanda, I need to see Cass and the guys in the conference room. Can you set that up for me?”
