“Bless your heart,” she said in her most syrupy voice, accent turned up to high. “Thanks for the offer Kasim but I’m gonna have to say no.”
“Do you mind telling me why?”
She smiled, knowing it had probably been a long time since someone had rejected him. “Because I don’t make a habit of dating men who don’t trust me or like me very much.”
“You could try to change my mind,” he tossed out in that low seductive voice that made her insides clench.
“I could,” she sighed, already feeling the weight of her decision. It had been more than eighteen months since her last sexual encounter and even longer than that to find anything that resembled a normal romantic relationship. “But I won’t say yes just so we can satisfy our mutual lust. I’m sure there are plenty of women who aren’t gold diggers that can entertain you for an evening. Goodbye Kasim.” Hanging up the phone she blew out a breath and turned her chair towards the windows.
Why on earth did she want a man like that? Hadn’t she had her fill of them in her small Alabama town of Tambray? Or did she want to let another handsome rich man break her heart once he realized she couldn’t be molded to what they wanted? No, she absolutely did not want that which is why she was determined to keep her distance. There were less complicated ways to scratch an itch.
