He frowned, wondering what she was suggesting. “Are you asking if I am Muslim?”
She looked taken aback. “No but it sounds like an American name made up to sound uh, middle eastern I guess.”
That pulled a laugh out of him that he choked on when she slithered out of the wetsuit to reveal the sexiest red bikini that enhanced her cleavage while drawing attention to her toned midsection and long tan legs. “You play sports?”
She nodded. “I like to hike and play almost anything with a racket. But don’t think that’ll distract me from your name.”
Another smile tugged at one corner of his mouth. “My mother will be very pleased to hear you say that. She wanted to give me an utterly unique name to match my unique life so…she made it up.”
“But you seem so…upper crust.”
“What does that mean?”
“Don’t take offense it’s just, well I thought rich people stuck to traditions and leaned towards the conservative. Making up a name doesn’t sound like either of those things.”
“If you knew her, you’d understand. She does love traditions but not for the sake of tradition.” It was hard to tell her the truth without revealing his true identity. But he’d learned the hard way that if you date outside your tax bracket sometimes secrets could be your best friend.
She toweled off her dripping hair and took her seat after sliding into the same tiny denim shorts she wore at the start of their journey. “If I’m asking too many questions just tell me. I haven’t met a lot of people from outside America so I’m curious, not prying.”
He knew that but still he was reluctant. “It’s just difficult to explain.”
“Okay.” She accepted his answer and turned her attention back to her photos and Sadiq didn’t know what to do with that. Was she truly alright with his non-answer or was she secretly upset? “Oh, lunch is ready!” She hopped up and went towards the tables set up inside.
Sadiq shrugged and followed her. He had a feeling that meeting Abby was the start of adventure he hadn’t even realized he wanted.
