“Well, thanks again,” Chastity says awkwardly at my extended silence. She turns to walk away.

“How do you know Shelby,” I ask, tipping my head in the tour manager’s direction where she’s deep in conversation with Jameson.

“Oh, uh, she’s the sister of one of my best friends. Ireland. There are eight of us. We all met in our teens through our love of Soul Obsession and became good friends, went to concerts together, stuff like that. Then Shelby landed this gig and wrangled backstage passes for us all. I had some vacation time due, so here I am.” She shrugs and blushes as she realizes she’s rambling.

Fuck, she gets cuter by the minute.

“And you?” she asks, tipping her head to the side as she appraises me. “Do you know the band?”

“I work security. I oversee the team.” I gesture toward my men, discretely shadowing the band members.

I hold a hand. “Xander.”

She takes it gently. “Good to meet you, Xander. I’m?—”

“Chastity. I know.”

Her eyes widen. “How?—”

“It’s my job to know everyone in this room. Chastity Harper. Age twenty-four. Currently residing in Twin Pines. Parents Justin and Tina, now living in Omaha.”

Chastity has a hunted look. And is that a hint of fear in her emerald eyes? She’s hiding something. Interesting. Maybe she’s not as innocent as she looks despite my instincts screaming otherwise.

“Don’t panic, Firecracker,” I say, impulsively tugging a copper curl. “I run a check on everyone who comes into contact with the band.”

She sucks in a breath, her gaze wary. “Firecracker. That’s what my parents call me. That’s a pretty thorough check for a small-town school teacher.”

My nickname for her is a coincidence, but I don’t tell her that. “I take my job seriously.” I tip my head toward the band members. “They entrust me with their safety. You have nothing to worry about unless you’re hiding something, Firecracker.”

She laughs nervously. “No secrets here. What you see is what you get.”

And damn if I don’t want every inch of what I see.

I dip my head slightly. “I’ll leave you to your cupcakes.”

I turn before she can reply as Jameson beckons me. Shelby stalks off with a face like thunder and heads toward Chastity.

“Everything okay?” I ask, wondering what that was all about.

Jameson is the “crooner” of the band. He’s pretty closed off and doesn’t give much away.

He shrugs a little too carelessly. “Just Shelby getting her panties in a pickle.” He follows my gaze to where Chastity is talking animatedly to Shelby. “See something you like?” He takes a long drink and grins. “Did you get her number?”

I give him a cool look. “In case you haven’t noticed, I’m working. Keeping your million-dollar asses safe.”

Jameson chuckles. “Not during the day. Get her number and take her out to lunch.”

“Are you giving me dating advice now?” I quirk an eyebrow. “Besides, I don’t need her number. I already have it.”

“Ah, as efficient as ever.” Jameson smirks. “No stone left unturned, eh? That’s why you’re the best. Ryder Thorne runs a tight ship.”

I nod. “That he does. Not that I was happy when he told me I’d be babysitting your asses. Screaming fans aren’t usually my thing.”

Jameson places a hand over his heart. “You wound me, Xander. And here I thought you and I had a real connection.”

“Asshole.” I shake my head with a laugh.

“Jameson!”
