HADLEY

The manager’s hand drifting across my ass as he escorted me into the office should have been the first sign that my day was going to go to hell.

If I’m going to pull myself out of this shit life, I need this job.

The manager says as he leans back in his chair. “We value our staff here at The Brazen,” Craig crosses his arms and smirks as he finally meets my gaze. “We are understaffed, and while you have never worked in a bar, that’s okay because all you’ll be doing is delivering bottles to tables. You’ve got the kind of face that is going to have bottles flying off the shelves.”

Somehow, I don’t think it’s my face he’s talking about.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity.” I smile politely as he pulls out a hiring package. “I’ve wanted to work at The Brazen for a while now.”

“I’m going to have you start tonight, but you need to have this filled out for your second shift. Any tips you make, you get to keep. Which means that you’re going to want to smile pretty at the men and if they get a little handsy, it’s not a bad thing.”

I swallow the bile that rises in my throat and nod. This isn’t what I ever wanted for myself, but it’s the best I can do. As I reach across the desk and grab the hiring package, I can’t help but think that this is a terrible idea.

If I want to finish my final year of schooling and become a kindergarten teacher, I need the kind of salary The Brazen pays its bottle service girls. I want to be the difference in children’s lives.

Even if that means I spend my nights getting groped by rich men.

Craig gets up from his leather chair and rounds the desk. He opens the door, his gaze drifting down to my ass as I leave.

“Go see Kennedy at the bar. She is going to be the one training you tonight. If you have any problems, take them to her.”

“Thank you,” I bite my tongue as his hand grazes my hip on my way to the bar.

“You must be the new girl,” A woman pops out from behind the bar, tucking her tiny tablet into the pocket of her apron. “Craig was saying that he was going to hire someone for tonight. I didn’t believe him. Most women go running in the opposite direction when they meet him.”

“I’m sure they do.”

“I’m Kennedy. Why don’t you follow me this way and we can find a uniform that will fit you? After that, we’ll head up to the VIP floor and start serving the bottles.”

I nod and look around the club. It’s quiet right now as it is still early. The Brazen hasn’t opened for the evening, but when it does, I have no doubt that it will be packed.

As one of the most exclusive clubs in Miami, there’s always a line outside the door. The men and women who frequent the club often have more money than they know what to do with.

At least, that’s what I read online when I was researching places to work. Personally, I try to avoid clubs as much as possible.

Kennedy leads me through a door just to the right of the bar.

We enter a staff room that matches the design of the rest of the club. It’s all thick fabrics and leather seats with a dark floor and even darker walls. Everything about The Brazen screams class and luxury.

I’ve never been so out of place.

Kennedy pulls a stack of fabric out of a cupboard. “These look like they should fit. Go try them on and then toss the rest of your stuff in a locker. The club opens in an hour and we have a lot to do before then.”

I take the uniform she shoves into my hands before disappearing behind one of the curtains.

It’s only a few months until you’re back in school. As long as you make enough money to pay for tuition, you can leave this place once school starts again.

That’s what I keep telling myself as I take a running leap out of my comfort zone.

Heavy music thuds in the background as I balance a bottle on the small silver tray.

The thousand- dollar bottle of bourbon.

My hands shake slightly at the cost of the bottle, but I do my best to keep still.
