“Why are you acting like this, baby?” she asks, her voice a purr. I’m sure it’s supposed to be sexy but it just makes my stomach twist.

“We have an arrangement that is based on information. You give me information and I don’t give your pimp information on where you are every Tuesday night. Now, start talking.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say,” she says, the seductive tone gone. “And if you tell him where I am, I’ll gut you.”

Chuckling, I close the distance between us and wrap my hand around her neck. Her eyes grow wide as I bend her back over the counter, squeezing her throat until she starts clawing at my hand.

“Let’s get one thing clear, Giana.” I press on her throat a little harder. “If you ever think that you can threaten me again, think twice. I’m going to allow you to live this time because you are still useful to me, but if it happens again, I will kill you.”

Giana nods, still clawing at my hand. I give her neck another squeeze for good measure before letting go and stepping back.

“Now,” I say as I cross my arms and look at her. “Do you have information for me or have you just come here to waste my time?”

Giana runs her hand over her neck. “Felix Domingos has been spotted back in Miami. I didn’t think it was true until I was working at a club the other night. I was up there dancing and he sat right in front of me.”

“Did he say anything to you? Does he know that you work for me?”

“No,” she says, shaking her head. “He looked like he was there for a good time but he didn’t seem interested in much else.”

“Which club?”

Felix is smart. He wouldn’t be showing his face at any of the well-known and popular clubs in the area. Not after I killed his family and took control of Miami for myself.

Now it looks like he’s back to try to reclaim the city for the Domingos cartel.

“Cargo. That old one downtown. Where the newer dealers are spending time at right now.”

Cargo is the kind of club people go to if they want information and discretion. It’s one of the clubs that I started sending Giana to shortly after I took control of Miami.

I study Giana for a moment, looking for any sign of a lie on her face. When I don’t see the telltale squint of her eyes, I head to my bedroom. She waits in the kitchen as I open the safe and grab her payment.

The second I hand her the money, she takes off for the door.

“Good work, Giana.” I frown as she looks over her shoulder at me. “See what else you can find out about Felix.”

“Yes, sir.”

“And Giana?” I stare right at her when I say, “If anyone finds out I’m aware he is back in town, I know on whose door I’ll come knocking. Understood?”

She nods before spinning around and yanking the door open. It slams closed behind her, leaving me alone in my penthouse apartment with nothing but the silence to comfort me.

I sigh and look at my empty glass on the counter. I could refill it and drink while I figure out what to do about the Domingos heir, but that’s not going to help anything.

Instead, I grab the glass and throw it against the far wall. I thought that I had dealt with the Domingos family once and for all. Though I know Felix is still alive, I didn’t think that he would make the mistake of coming back to Miami.

Not when he knows that there is a price for his head.

I stare at the shattered glass on the ground, a million different thoughts racing through my mind.

Right now, I don't want to go after Felix. Not yet. I need to know what he is planning so I can make sure it never comes to fruition.

If he is building support, I need to find out who the traitors are. I can’t afford to lose Miami. My cartel is still new to the area — though it has been eleven years since I took control from the Domingos cartel.

If Felix topples the Aguilar cartel, I won’t be able to rebuild elsewhere.

Miami is my life and I’m not going to let him take it from me without a fight.

He can live for now, but when the time is right…
