Alessio was told my parents were alive?”

“Yes, but why would someone do that? Why would someone spread the word that your parents are not dead?”

“I don’t know. I have no clue who Alessio is or why he would care about my parents. You have to believe me.”

The room starts to feel warmer and smaller as he studies me. His eyes narrow and he gets up, stepping around the desk to stand in front of me. Jovan’s soft hair falls in his eyes and I picture running my fingers through that hair to get it out of his face.

I remember how soft his hair was in my hands as I held him while he gave me the best orgasm I’ve had in a long time. The tender looks he gave me when he made me beg for his cock.

That isn’t the man standing in front of me anymore. Not by a long shot.

The man in front of me is the leader of a cartel and a person who may see fit to dispose of me at any moment. He is the kind of man who could get rid of me without a second thought.

“Hadley, why the hell should I believe anything that is coming out of that pretty little mouth of yours when all you do is lie to me?” he asks, his voice low and dangerous as he leans closer to me.

“I’ve never lied to you.”

He smirks, trailing a finger along the curve of my cheek. “No, that’s right. You don’t lie to me. You just keep secrets from me and run away. You hide even though we both know you have a backbone. What I can’t figure out is what you’re hiding, though.”

“You have your secrets. I have mine.”

Jovan sits up straight. “My baby is not a fucking secret, Hadley.”

“And we’re back to the baby!” I stand up and shake my head. “I was going to tell you about the baby after I had more time to process what I wanted to do. Life with you isn’t the kind of life that a child should have. Can you honestly tell me without a doubt that you can keep our child safe?”

“How could I tell you that when you haven’t even given me a chance to plan for it?” He jerks his chin in the direction of the chair. “Sit your ass back down. We’re not done talking yet.”

“I think I’m done talking.”

I head for the door, my hand closing around the handle just as I feel a hand on my waist. I’m spun around quickly and pinned against the wall. Jovan looks down at me, irritation crossing his handsome features. There are only mere inches between us.

Excitement courses through my body as he grinds his stiffened cock against me. In that moment, the argument fades away. There is nothing but the sexual chemistry between us.

When Jovan is rough and demanding like this, I reach a new level of turned on. I want him to take what he wants from me and leave me a writhing mess at the end of it all.

That’s probably what scares me the most.

“Listen and listen good, kitten. We need to talk about this baby and figure out a plan. I was wrong to take your things last night, but I am not going to allow you to put both yourself and the child in danger because you won’t let go of your pride.”

“My pride?” I scoff and try to wriggle away from him but he only presses his body against mine harder. “Let me go. If I’m not out of a job, I’m supposed to be working right now and everyone is going to wonder where I am.”

He chuckles and leans forward to take my earlobe between his teeth. “We could let them all hear where you are. I could fuck you up against this door and everyone out there would hear the moans you make when you come.”

I would be lying if I said he didn’t incinerate my underwear with his words.

“Now,” he says as he pulls back from me. “I want to take you for a weekend away so we can discuss all of this properly without any outside distractions. I have a nice cottage in the woods upstate. There’s a small town close by. I would like to take you there.”

“And all we’re going to do is talk?” I ask, suspicion crawling through me.

He gives me a wolfish grin. “We could do other things if you’d like.”

I reach out and run my hand slowly over the tented material of his pants. “You would like that, wouldn’t you?”

“Stop being a tease, kitten. You’re going to go back to work and pretend as if nothing has happened in here. Once you’re done with your shift, I’m taking you away from here so we can figure out our shit together.”

“Alright,” I say, knowing that there is no avoiding this.

It’s time that I talk to Jovan, at least a little bit. He is the father of my baby and I haven’t been fair to him. I owe him some explanations — though there are secrets I plan on keeping to myself.
