Page 5 of Rapture and Ruin

“I’m working,” she says, though there is no real anger behind her voice anymore. “I have to finish out my first and last shift.”

“A work ethic when you know you’re going to be fired?” My voice raises slightly to be heard above the music. This girl is more surprising by the second. “Now, that’s commendable. What’s life without a little risk, though?”

“Grinding on a man covered in alcohol isn’t my idea of a risk worth taking.” Her thighs press together, her body betraying her words. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to my guests.”

I grin and step around her, getting in her way. “Alright, so don’t dance with me. Take me home with you.”

“Is getting a bottle of bourbon dumped on you a kink?” She smirks when I roll my eyes. “I hate to break this to you, but I have better things to do with my night once my shift’s over.”

The heat of her body this close to mine sends my blood rushing south.

All I can think about are the curves of her breasts and hips. Her body beneath mine as her breathless whimpers come faster.

I take her hand, running my thumb over the back of it. “Tell you what, if the manager doesn’t come over and fire you at the end of your shift, then you’ll take me home with you.”

She pulls her hand away and climbs another step. “Are you bribing me with what I’m sure will be sad sex just so I can keep a job?”

I follow her, invading her space again. Her eyes widen as I lean forward, dipping my head until my mouth hovers inches from hers. When her gaze connects with mine, her interest shines through.

“Trust me, you’ll only be crying because you can’t take another orgasm.”

Her breath hitches and her gaze ignites. She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment before opening them again.

“Alright,” Her voice is no more than a whisper. The corner of her mouth twitches upward as she trails a finger down my chest. “It’s been a while since I’ve had some fun with anything other than a vibrator.”

Her smirk grows as she inches my shirt up my torso. There’s a little reckless part of her that is begging to break free.

I’m going to be the one who snaps the lock off the cage that holds her reckless spirit.

“Nice place,” I say as we walk into a small apartment later that night.

It’s nothing like my own penthouse, but it’s a nice apartment. If you look out the window, lean to the left, and squint, you can almost see the beach. The apartment is pretty plain — like she doesn’t have much to show for her life.

“You know,” Hadley says as she drops her keys and purse on the kitchen counter. “You still haven’t told me your name.”

“I don’t think it’s that important.” I tuck my hands into my pockets and smile. “If you really want a name, I could give you a fake one.”

She kicks off her shoes. “It’s really not that important. I was just wondering which name I shouldn’t call in the morning.”

I chuckle and take off my own shoes, placing them beside hers. “Oh, now you have jokes?”

“Have to get through life somehow.” Hadley walks into the kitchen and pulls out a bottle of tequila.

Her gaze never leaves mine as she cracks open the bottle and takes a long swig. “I normally don’t do anything like this.”

Grinning, I perch myself on the arm of her beige couch. “You say that like I do.”

She gestures to my body. “Look at you and then tell me that you don’t.”

“I can’t.”

Hadley leans against the counter and fidgets with the hem of her shorts. “Exactly. I still can’t believe you were right about me not getting fired. That bottle was expensive.”

The last thing I want to talk about right now is that damn bottle.

I get up and close the distance between us. Her breath hitches as I take the tequila from her and set it on the counter. “If you want me to leave, you can tell me. I’m not going to make you do anything that you don’t want to do.”

Suspicion lingers in her eyes as I tower over her.
