Well, we were past that point, weren’t we? Just a curvy girl and her wolf running through the woods like we had the world at our feet. Truly, we did. In so many ways. Being out here with Eric opened me up. It gave a breath of fresh air to experiences I had once had by myself.

I would have never gone to a club with a guy, let alone explored an abandoned factory with him. And then the tunnels. And then the field. And then the sex.

Goddess, nobody had touched me like in ages. Maybe never. I didn’t think having such a spiritual experience in such a human setting was possible. Romance novels and movies hardly captured the real magic of it, the sheer primality that came with carefully timed orgasms.

Nothing about it was perfect. We were sweating and clawing at each other, tearing at flesh like we wanted to consume the other. We were utterly lost to our animals—and I believed now that he wasn’t entirely human while he was human. There was still that wolf in him. Those baser urges were always on the prowl, much like the wolf that stalked the yard.

I leaned against the window sill, pressing my forehead to the glass to feel the chill from outside. Winter wanted to come on so badly. The South always had to struggle with that in October. One day, it was gorgeously sunny, with temperatures in the seventies. The next, it was frigid with icicles on the window.

Down here, the weather could never make up its mind. That was how it felt trying to figure out what I wanted to do with Eric. There was no consistency in my decisions. I was either sparkling hot or rigidly cold. I wasn’t sure how things were going to end up with that chat, and most of that stress had been channeled into our coupling the other night.

Boy, did I want to do it again. He had made love to me like the sun was about to swallow the universe. I needed a man like that in my life. I needed someone who was going to take the time to explore things with me, ask me questions, be honest.

Is he being honest?

I focused on the yard, noticing the way the wolf spun around and looked directly at me. Those blue eyes pierced right through the glass and stung my heart.

I mewled.

Didn’t he know what those looks did to me? We were supposed to hold off on doing anything else until we got back. Assuming the chat went well, we could dive right back in. But I wasn’t so sure about that.

Kiki seemed so hesitant. How would I feel to be her stepmother instead of just her best friend? It would be bizarre, and I wasn’t sure I could handle that kind of change.

My focus went back to Eric in his wolf form. He was sitting like a good dog might after being told to sit and wagging his massive tail back and forth. The way his tongue hung out of his open maw made him look goofy as hell. And those eyes—shoot, they were like glacier caves waiting to soothe my anxieties.

He was looking directly at the window like he was checking me out. When he cocked his head to the left, he looked like a curious puppy waiting for head scratches. I couldn’t help giggling when he hopped to his feet and shook his fur out. What a handsome devil in every form.

With a sigh, I went back to the suitcase. I tugged on a pair of clean leggings and a hoodie to keep me warm. After pulling on a pair of thick white socks, I headed downstairs, where I was met at the back door by a naked Eric.

Unfair. Entirely rude. And what a damn sight to greet me right when I needed some more fuel for the day.

Goddess, I would be going home to discuss whether or not I could keep touching that body. I wasn’t willing to discuss that with Kiara, especially since it wasn’t her decision whether or not I could be with her father. Whatever feelings she had were valid. At the same time, I felt like I was getting boxed out before I could decide what I wanted.

I know what I want, I thought as I gazed into Eric’s eyes. His hair was soaked through with sweat, and his rugged scruff had grown thicker from him, not bothering to buzz it down. I liked it that way. Rough was good. I want him.

“We should head out soon,” I forced myself to say. “We’ll make better time if we get on the road now.”

He shook out a towel and started dabbing his hair with it. “Yeah, that’s true.”

“Unless you want to stick around and explore some of the sights.”

His eyes dropped to my breasts. Because, of course, they did. “We can’t keep Kiara waiting.”

Ugh, right. “I don’t get how you can check out my tits while thinking about your daughter.”

“I’m just saying what we planned to do.”

“While staring at my tits.”

He smirked, though he never lifted his gaze. “Is that a problem? There’s no rule against that, is there?”

“I got plenty to say about it, Captain Barrett.”

Ah, that got his attention. His eyes smoldered as he stared at me with a look that made my insides feel hot and cold at the same time. “Don’t tease me unless you mean it.”

“Don’t stare unless you mean it.”

“Oh, I mean it.”
