Wearing SWAT gear, I glanced at Grey and the line of agents behind me. This was fun, I thought as I crouched behind a parked car.

We’d had intel on a drugs stash, and I had been working the case full-on for four weeks.

Tonight, we were planning to breach and arrest the people inside. I’d tracked a truck of coke to a warehouse and watched as the last five days, they’d moved it to a house in Rapid City. The fact I’d tracked it from North Dakota into South Dakota very much made it my case.

Grey tapped my shoulder, and I held a finger up.

I waited patiently for the second assault team to reach the rear of the building before giving the order to enter. Finally, a few moments later, my earphone crackled, and Beta team confirmed they were in position.

“Alpha Breach, you’re up,” I whispered into my mouthpiece.

Saunders and Carmichael were to breach the front door with their heavy ram. Meanwhile, Beta team waited for an idiot to open the back entrance and go in that way. Someone always tried to escape that way, so we didn’t waste effort breaching there.

Saunders and Carmichael crept past me, and then I followed on. I was carrying a Heckler and Koch MP5/10 sub-machine gun. I also had flash bangs and tear gas, should they be needed.

We snuck down the street, weapons ready in case we were seen. Judging by the loud music and noise coming from the target house, they weren’t expecting us.

Saunders and Carmichael moved silently up the three steps, and Saunders held his fingers up in a quiet countdown.

Then, they slammed the ram into the door.

The damn thing didn’t break the first time, but on the second blow, it flew open.

I raced up the stairs with my team behind me.

Grey and I searched the room to the immediate right as the others walked into other rooms.

“Two held,” Bees called over the mic.

“Mine’s clear,” I said, moving forward towards another door.

My gut kicked in, and I ducked as a sledgehammer flew at my head. Helmet or not, that blow would have caved my skull in.

Calmly, I straightened and booted the culprit straight in his knees, taking him down. Grey barrelled past me as I held my weapon on a second figure, and moments later, they were both in cuffs.

“Got two—make that three,” I announced, spotting movement behind a couch. I covered Grey as I moved carefully around and pulled out a woman.

Above me, gunshots blasted, and I waited.

“One dead and two injured,” Saunders said over the mic.

Reports from the other pairings came in as they cleared each area. Finally, we dragged everyone together into one room and put four guys on them.

We’d arrested eleven men and women and, one of which was the big boss.

“Search the house for the coke, watch out for booby traps. I’d put nothing past this scum,” I ordered.

Feeling alert, I walked out with Grey, having spotted a cellar door in the kitchen. As we moved down the stairs, we kept our weapons high.

At the bottom was a light switch, and hitting it, my mouth dropped open in dumbfounded surprise.

The coke. It was down there. And it’d been neatly stacked up.

“No fucking way,” Grey drawled.
