Barry reminded her, “All those pros didn’t save me from Robin.”

“Not everyone is crazy like Robin.”

He put his elbows on the table and leaned forward so he was closer to her. “So you’re saying you’d date a coworker?”

“If we vibe and they seem worth the risk…” Xolani shrugged. “Sure! Why not?”

His mind immediately translated that to mean that his being a coworker hadn’t taken him out of the running for her heart. So why had she said ‘no’?

He was about to ask her the question when Nigel and his posse chose the moment to stop by their table. Barry kept giving his friend non-verbal hints to go away and carry his team of irritants with him, but it was in vain. Nigel remained clueless, and Barry and Xolani were hustled into moving to a table that could fit the whole group.

Despite his best efforts, Barry couldn’t get Xolani alone after that. They only got privacy later in the evening as he was walking back to her car so she could leave.

She said, “I had a great time.”

“Me too,” Barry said, though he was still bitter about having his date stolen by Nigel’s hooligans. “I’d love to do it again.”

“I would too.” The way she smiled and tilted her head while looking at him, made it seem like she was flirting.

The intense urge to put his arm around her waist and draw her closer hit Barry. However, he reminded himself of their relationship and stuck his hands into the pockets of his khaki slacks.

He said, “Let me check my schedule and get back to you.” She responded with laughter, which made him ask, “What? Did I say something wrong?”

Still chuckling, she explained, “That sounds like something a fuck-boy would say at the end of a date that he doesn’t plan on repeating.”

Humor in his tone, Barry asked, “Did you just call me a fuck-boy?”

“Did I?” Chuckling, she grabbed his arm in a sort of apology. “I’m sorry. It was just funny.”

Her touch was soothing, yet electrifying at the same time. He wanted her to keep touching him, and was disappointed when she let her hand fall.

He said, “I didn’t mean to sound blasé. It’s just… you know how work can be. I can’t be certain about my plans until_”

“I know. I know. I was just teasing.” Her tone softened. “We’re friends. We don’t have to set up official dates. Just call me if you want to hang out and I’ll let you know if I’m available. If I want to hang out, I’ll do the same.”

Even though he was the one who’d started it, hearing her describe them as friends grated on his nerves. But he forced a smile. “That sounds like a plan.”

By now they’d reached Xolani’s car.

She pressed her key to open the door. “This is me.”

“I guess this means goodbye,” he said. Of course, he went in for a hug. How could he resist?

The last time she’d been in his arms, she was stiff and obviously surprised. But this time, she walked into his arms like they’d been hugging for decades. She rose on tiptoes and wrapped her arms around his neck. He set his hands on her waist and lower back, pulling closer so that every inch of their bodies was sealed together.

Her breasts pushed into his chest, and for the first time, he realized that she wasn’t wearing a bra. His shirt and her dress were light enough that he felt her nipples pressing into him. How he kept from growling in utter delight was a wonder that only the gods could explain. Blood and heat rushed through his body to pool at his cock. The errant organ swelled.

If he were in his right mind, this would’ve been the time to step back. But no, he just held her tighter, enjoying how her thighs pressed into his and how her pussy cradled his groin. Given how fast he was swelling, she had to feel his dick, but she didn’t move away either.

In that moment, it didn’t matter that they were supposed to be just friends. The only thing that kept him from lowering his hands to her ass and pulling her deeper into his erection was the thought that they were in a public parking lot.

He buried his face into her neck, further tempting his already overworked senses with her sexy scent.

“Okay.” Xolani gave a nervous and breathless laugh. “It’s time for me to go.”

Barry wanted to beg for a few more seconds… or minutes… or hours. But her arms had already come down from his neck and were on his chest. He reluctantly dragged his face from the crook of her neck to look down at her. And that’s when he saw her lips.

So shiny. So thick. So kissable.
