Zeus chuckled as I wrapped my arms around him, feeling his laugh vibrate against my hands.
“As I said, mine.”
Tye stared at Zeus before Zeus sped off, leaving him dumbfounded.
Did Zeus just say mine?

REIGN
The door opened downstairs, and I waited for the raucous sounds of Tye and Zeus to fill the house. I’d barely slept—hell, it was the afternoon now, and my head was banging. Too much to deal with. I stared at the ceiling when I realised I’d not heard a sound from the guys, so I sat up, listening intently.
No one would be stupid enough to break into my house, surely. But after everything that’s happened this year, nothing surprised me anymore.
I padded over to the door, careful not to make too much noise. The floorboards in this house were loud, though, and I was sure they’d given me away already.
I was about to call out when I heardhervoice. A voice I’d not heard in months.
“Reign?”
Elizabeth.
My insides flipped like always when she said my name, and I moved without thinking, heading downstairs towards her.
She was like the first drink after being parched, refreshing and life-saving. She wore a black polka dot dress with tights, her hair curled at the ends. She’d been crying, and her lower lip wobbled when she saw me.
“Reign.”
It probably didn’t help that I was half-dressed because she let out a little whimper when I stepped closer, wanting to reach out and see if she was real. I wanted to inhale her — Fuck, Ineededto inhale her.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice barely audible.
It was a stupid, pointless question because I didn’t carewhyshe was there; I just knew she was. That was all that mattered to me.
“Tye and Zeus brought me here; I was at work—”
Those two. Playing Cupid.
“Work?” I growled, stepping closer.
“In a shop,” Elizabeth whispered, her eyes searching mine as she blinked away fresh tears. “Just a clothes shop.”
Elizabeth bowed her head, and her hair fell into her eyes. I reached out, sweeping it back, and she looked up at me like a deer caught in headlights. She was shocked I was touching her, and she swallowed hard.
“Whyare you here?” I asked her, dropping my hand.
I immediately missed her silky hair strands in my hand, but I was battling something bigger than myself — Something bigger than us.
“I told you, Tye and Zeus—”
“Did they force you?” I snapped, wondering if she wanted to be here at all.
“No, I wanted to come.” Elizabeth raised her eyes to mine, pushing her shoulders back as she took a deep breath. “I wanted to see you, but I didn’t know if you wanted to see me.”
My breathing was ragged — I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her.
“Is that right?”
