I sound ridiculous.
Reign studied me, shaking his head with a disapproving stare.
“No, I meant there were other things I’d rather do with you, but only when you are taken care of.”
A tingle swept through me as he ate like he’d not just said something deliriously sexy.
Taken care of?
“What do you mean?” I asked as he leaned over me, his bulky arm leaning over my thighs to pick my box up.
He hands it to me, indicating for me to eat.
“I mean, Elizabeth—” Full name usage and everything—Swoon! “—You need to eat and relax before we do anything else. Tell me about you. Your day, your life, whatever.”
Reign clicked the television off, and the silence hurt my ears.
I didn’t want to talk about my day because I was still scarred by it.
I shuddered, and Reign caught it, his eyes narrowing.
“What?”
“Nothing,” I answered too quickly, and he rolled his eyes.
“Don’t lie. What happened?” His voice was softer now, and I swallowed, wishing Tye or Zeus were here.
I didn’t want Reign to lose it.
“Nothing, it was just a long day.” I lied, shoving more food in my mouth before I could say another word.
The corners of Reign’s eyes crinkled as he watched me, and we ate in silence until I couldn’t eat another mouthful.
“Are you done?” Reign asked, reaching out to brush my hair away from my eyes.
My heart responded with a bang, and for a second, I thought it had given up.
“Yeah.”
“Have you heard from Brandon?”
I felt a pang in my chest, and Reign sighed as though he had heard it.
“It’s never easy, is it? Breaking up.”
I shook my head.
“No, but nor is coming to terms with the fact I’ve slept with three men since.”
“You dirty girl,” Reign mumbled, his fingers lacing with mine.
“I know,” I wailed, my lips parting nervously as he gazed at me.
“You’re perfect for what we want, Elizabeth.”
My eyes widened as he leaned over, his lips brushing the soft skin on my throat. His cologne filled my nostrils, and something within me ached.
“You keep calling me by my full name,” I whispered, and Reign smirked against my jawline.
