I frowned, unsure whyhewas apologising.

Mr West was the one who put me in that situation, not Reign. My eyes fixed on his, and I saw something there that gave me chills.

Something dark and deadly.

“Please stop working for him. I can’t protect you like this.”

“I understand, but I need my job,” I said heavily. “I just don’t know why he wanted me to watch.”

Reign's lips pursed together, his eyes narrowing once more. It was like someone had taken the air from the room, my chest tightening beneath his steely gaze. “Because he’s depraved. He gets off on your fear.”

I nodded, twisting the duvet between my fingers idly.

“You knowIcan give you a job.” Reign reminded me. “Or you don’t even have to work.”

A flash of irritation ripped through me. I knew he was trying to help, but there was no way I was letting a rich man keep me.

It’s not who I am.

“I know you can, and I appreciate the offer; really, I do. But I’ve worked hard to get to where I am, and I don’t mean to be rude, but Ilikeworking.”

Reign exhaled through his nose, rolling his eyes.

What the fuck?

“An independent woman. I get it, but you’re subjecting yourself to his bullshit. What employee is forced to watch her boss get head? Let me help you.”

I shook my head, refusing to relinquish the control I had over my life. If I wanted to leave, I would, but considering I’d let my boss practically suck on my tits, I couldn’t see how I could complain.

But you told him not to.

I brightened up at that thought and decided to confront Mr West when I returned to work. He may be a sick fuck, but he needed me. I knew everything about his business; no one was more efficient and dedicated, not even Michelle.

“I’ll deal with Mr West. I’m just shocked, that’s all.”

Reign gazed at me in disbelief. “I don’t want you anywhere near him.”

“I appreciate your concern,” I said, dropping my gaze. “But he didn’t do anything to me.”

That’s a lie.

“He’s sick.”

“Yeah, maybe he is,” I told Reign, meeting his gaze head-on. “He said the same about you.”

Surprise filled his eyes, and I decided to press on.

Fuck it.

“What gave him that idea, Reign?”

Reign stared past me, his posture stiffening.

“I don’t know, Elizabeth,” he snapped. “But we’re not talking about me, we’re talking about AJ West. Please, consider leaving.”

“Reign.” I stared at him. “Why would he say that about you?”

Reign stood up abruptly, heading to the door. “I told you, I have no idea. I’m not having this conversation with you anymore.”
