TYE

I didn’t like the way Lizzie sounded on that call.

Scared —no— fucking terrified.

I pulled into the parking lot, cutting the engine while waiting for her to show.

There was heavy traffic today, and I watched idly as cars honked at one another with annoyance. A couple with a screaming baby looked like they would rip their hair out while a trucker munched on a fat burger, the sauce dripping down his bearded chin.

My tummy rumbled, reminding me that I needed to eat.

Zeus and his fucking drug benders.

It had to stop.

“Tye?”

I whipped my head to the car window to see a woman hiding behind oversized sunglasses and a...blonde wig.

“Lizzie?”

“Hey, Tye. Can I get in?”

She didn't even give me time to answer, climbing in beside me as she reached for my hand, holding it in hers.

My heart thudded against my chest as she glanced around us, clipping in her seatbelt.

“Can we go? There’s a motel not far from here.”

“I live not far from here; why don’t we go there?” I suggested, but she shook her head firmly.

“A motel is better. Do you have cash? I have some—”

“I have cash,” I said slowly, turning toward her. “Lizzie, what’s with the wig and the motel?”

“Can we just go there? Please?” Lizzie pleaded, tears rolling down her cheeks.

I couldn't stand to see women cry, especially not Lizzie.

“Sure, babe, take some deep breaths. Alright? Talk to me about the weather.”

This raised a laugh from her, but it was as hollow as fuck.

“It’s cold.”

“It sure is,” I agreed, heading away from the traffic and toward the open road. “I like it though, nice and sunny, but chilly. My favourite kind of weather.”

Lizzie stared out the window when I saw a sign for a motel not too far away.

“I was with AJ.”

I almost drove into the trees when she dropped that little revelation, but I regained my composure, staring at her with disbelief.

“West? AJWest?”

Oh, man.

Reign would murder the fucker.
