My eyes meet Gabe’s, and he chuckles. “When in doubt, agreeing with Mom or Dad will get you brownie points, at least in their book.”

“I’m not trying to get brownie points,” I say. “But that was a lovely dinner. And you seem like a very loving, tight-knit family who enjoys being around one another. It would be a shame to lose all of that over something so petty. Life’s too short.”

I turn to leave, and I know Gray is watching me.

I know Gabe didn’t mean any harm in it, but now he’s onto us. I wonder if the rest of the family know. Not that either of us confirmed or denied anything. Well, I tried to deny it, but he could see right through me. You’d think as a lawyer I’d have my game face on, but apparently not.

“See what you did?” I hear Gray say to his brother.

“I didn’t do anything. But if I had a lawyer who looked like that, I’d be carrying on like a schoolboy too…”

I hastily exit the kitchen, avoiding Gray's response. Ducking for cover where these two are concerned seems like the adult thing to do.

Grayson

I pull up behind Hartley as she parks her car in the empty garage, and makes her way over to my truck. She slides in the passenger side as I put the truck into reverse.

While my place is not far from Aunt Patti and Uncle Jack’s, it’d be a little suspicious if anyone saw Harley’s car parked outside my place, and knowing my nosy family, that wouldn’t go unnoticed.

“I’m sorry about Gabe,” I say. “He’s a nosy fucker.”

“So he knows about us?”

“I didn’t confirm it, so he can shove his theories up his ass.”

“But he knew I was the girl from New York?” She gives me a serious look from under her lashes.

“Before you crucify me, I didn’t tell them shit. Hudson got it out of me that I met someone, but I didn't share any details.

“No locker room talk?”

I laugh. “Maybe if I was still in high school.”

She snorts. “Both you and your brother very well could be.”

“I don’t want to talk about my brother,” I say, annoyed about his rudeness toward her. I wanted to punch his fucking nose in. Next time I see him and Mom and Dad aren’t around, I might just do that.

“So, what did you want to talk about?”

“How I’m going to fuck you.” I reach one hand over to squeeze her thigh.

“You’ve kept me in a constant state of arousal since yesterday in your office.”

She bites her lip adorably as I avert my eyes back to the road. “It’s not my fault you look the way you do and talk like that. And those pretty eyes…”

“What about those pretty eyes?”

She takes a beat, then we look at each other. “They undress me and you know it, enough for Gabe to notice.”

I snort. “He only noticed because you’re attractive, and he’s trying to rile me. He doesn’t know shit. Just because he’s sexually frustrated doesn’t mean he needs to take it out on all of us.”

She sighs. “Your bickering reminds me of me and my brother.”

“It’s a love-hate thing.”

“Exactly.”
