“Let’s take a five-minute break, Gray,” Jim suggests. “I’ll get Sammy to bring us some coffee and we’ll break this down and review the settlement again.”

Hartley slides her seat in, “I’ll organize the coffee with Sammy,” she says, stepping out of the room.

I nod in response. “I think I’ll step out for a minute, too,” I say to Jim and Regina, “if you’ll excuse me.”

“Take your time,” Regina says, her tone sympathetic.

“We have a plan,” Jim assures me. “But get some air for a moment, and we will continue.”

I don’t just need air; I need Hartley more than I need oxygen right now. Even if I know it hinders things where my divorce is concerned, not that I give a shit. This will be over soon, come hell or high water. I want this done.

I catch her wrist just before she turns. The receptionist eyes me as Hartley gasps in surprise.

“Mr. Bassett, I’m so sorry!” she says, her cheeks flushing.

The receptionist answers an incoming call and I lean to growl in Hartley's ear; “I need to talk to you. In private.”

I don’t wait for an answer, pulling her toward the nearest vacant office.

I’m annoyed.

I’m beyond frustrated.

And none of that has to do with my girl turning up in my lawyer’s office.

Hartley is Jim Chambers’ daughter?

I try to grasp that information as my mind reels with Keira’s new betrayal, and the fact the woman I can’t stop thinking about is now my new lawyer in a very messy case. That’s sure to be fun.

Why the fuck would Keira mess with Coyote Run? Of course, I know the answer to that already. She’s just so damn nasty and spiteful. I don't know what I ever saw in her.

I would never have left her high and dry, even though she fucking deserves it. Alimony and my assets won’t allow for that, and I’ve followed the prenup terms to a tee. My only regret is that I should’ve put cheating as one of the clauses. Then the bitch would get exactly what she deserves; nothing.

If she wanted a mad Grayson Bassett, she’s definitely got one now. Nobody is going to ruin my future plans, much less her.

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to like the idea of fighting fire with fire. She knows what Coyote Run means to me.

“OHMYGOD, Gray!” Gone is her professional demeanor the second the door closes.

“Hart.” I smile, temporarily forgetting my predicament, reaching down to pull her into my arms. The least I can do is hug the woman after what we shared in New York, and all our texts over these past weeks.

I’ve been dying to do that since the very second I saw her enter the room.

“I can’t believe this.” She pulls back to look at me, maybe to check if I’m real, then she wraps her arms back around me and we hold each other.

“What are you doing here?” I stammer.

“What are you doing here? I thought you were somewhere like Alaska?”

I chuckle. “That was a metaphor for Stoney Creek. This is my hometown. Aren’t you supposed to be in Boston?”

She nods. “I told you about my dad, but the moving part just kinda happened these last few weeks. Plus, I avoided asking you where you were going because I didn’t want the disappointment that would follow.”

I stare at her beautiful face. She’s regal at every turn and my heart hammers in my chest that she’s even standing here. Right here, in fucking Stoney Creek.

“I know. This is more than just a coincidence.” I swipe my hand over my face as I step back to take her in. I want to grab her and press my lips to her perfect pink pout. She’s covered her sexy lips with a soft pink gloss and I’m aching to lick it off.

Even though she’s my sexy new lawyer, I still want to do very bad things to her.
