When I finally make it home to my new digs with barely any furniture, I’m feeling a wave of tiredness. It’s been a long day, and it’s only early afternoon. I’m not getting too comfortable at home just yet because I still have to meet with Gray later. I decide I’d better get changed when my cell buzzes on the little table next to my new 2-seater sofa. It arrived this morning before work.

Darbs:

How did it go today? Did you kick some small town ass?

With all the chaos today, I haven’t been able to tell Darby about any of it yet.

I quickly type back.

Me:

You have no freaking idea! I’ll call you later. But yes, yes and double yes.

First, I need to send Gray a text because I haven’t heard from him since I left him in the parking lot. I hit send to Darby, and quickly switch.

Me:

Gray, I’m so sorry about today and all the drama. I know it was difficult. And I’m sorry I didn’t tell you where I was moving to. I had no idea you were in Stoney Creek, I thought you had moved from Tennessee. Are you free to talk later?

A text comes back from Darby, so I switch again.

Darbs:

OMFG. I’m about to go into my last waxing appointment for today, otherwise I’d be calling you in a hot minute. Can’t wait to hear! X

I smile, sipping my freshly made tea, enjoying the peacefulness of my surroundings. I’m not used to any quiet in my life. I savor it while I can.

My cell buzzes again.

Gray:

Hi beautiful. I’m used to her drama. Nothing has shocked me more than seeing you today. It was a welcome surprise, trust me. And Yes I’m free.

I smile.

Hartley:

Regina and I have a response, and a proposition to put to them, so we need you to have a look over.

Gray:

Sure. I can do that.

He made it clear that he’s not gifting her the house like he first proposed, not after the last stunt she pulled, so we’ve made some adjustments. Hitting her where it hurts makes me smile, and I’m not usually a vindictive person.

Me:

What time would be good?

Gray:

No time like the present. Are you free now?

Me:

Yes, I just got home. I’ll get changed and meet you downtown in an hour?

Gray:
