“Me,” said Code. “He’s gotta be eighty-one or two, by now. He was on the president’s defense council until he was shamed after convincing them to use an injectable tracking technology for their soldiers.”

The team all stared at Code, knowing exactly what he was talking about. They’d destroyed that project years ago.

“No, shit?” muttered Miller.

“No, shit. He only recently regained his title of general, convinced that this new thing called psycho-deference, led by the Drs. Shaw, would change the landscape for the North Korean military. According to the tracking software for the NSA, he left North Korea this morning. His flight plan takes him to China for a short stop, then will come here. To New Orleans.”

“Well, that tells us what we need to know,” said Gaspar. “Make this place look friendly. We’ll be camping out here for a while.”

While the team got to work cleaning up the mess they’d made, Code began tracking the movements of General Cao and his team.

“They were trying to do it again,” frowned Nine, speaking to the other senior leaders. Ian, Ghost, and Gaspar stared at him, nodding.

“Yeah, but we’re going to stop him,” said Ian. “In fact, we may be able to either turn him over to the American military to pump for information or bargain to send him back to North Korea.”

“I don’t think we want that burden,” said Ghost. “I say we send him to the feds and let them decide what to do with him. What’s on the data in the house?”

“Code got it all. He was able to get all the videos, the partially written studies, the recordings of the kids screaming, all of it. There were more videos of Christina than anyone else. I think they were intrigued by her inability to show fear. I’m glad we got to her, or Cao might have been intrigued with her as well.” Ghost nodded at Nine, then turned to the others.

“Let’s get to work.”

“Hi, Christina,” smiled Leif, standing in the doorway.

“Leif! I’m so glad you came to see me. I’m leaving today to go home.”

“I know,” he blushed, nodding at her. “Doc, Riley, and Gabi said you’re doing amazing. You were really brave, Christina. Amazing, in fact.”

“Thank you,” she said, reaching for his hand. He sat down next to her, holding her hand, then looked behind him.

“Are your parents here?”

“Not yet. They went home to grab some more things for me, but they should be here any time now. I’m anxious to get back to school and try to live a normal life again.”

“I can understand that,” he grinned. He squeezed her hand, wanting to say something, but wasn’t sure what it was.

“You know, I’d love it if we could keep texting, maybe go to the movies. Just you and me.”

“Oh. Oh, yeah. Sure, just you and me.”

“That’s silly, right? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. I mean, I meant it, but don’t think that you have to.”

“Christina, I’d like that,” said Leif. “I’ll be headed into the Army when my senior year is done. I’ll leave almost immediately.”

“That’s great! I’m so proud of you,” she smiled.

“You are?”

“Yes,” laughed the beautiful girl. “You’re amazing, Leif. I know you’re a great athlete. You, Walker, and Forrest blew away the competition at the district cross-country meet. I also know that you’re smart.”

“How do you know that?” he laughed, shaking his head.

“I saw the file in the school office on the district’s top scholars. You’re in the top five percent, Leif.”

“And you’re in the top two percent, Christina.” She nodded, laughing at him.

“You’ve done your homework. Nice job. So, we’re both good athletes, we’re both smart, and we seem to get along well.”

“I sense a ‘but’ in there,” he smirked.
