Yep, you guessed it.

One minute, I was stepping off the treadmill, then the next, I was staring at the floor.

Fuck. My. Life.

Fuck it even worse when I felt a pair of strong hands grab my arms, lifting me to my feet, forcing me to have to acknowledge one of the most embarrassing moments in my life.

“What the fuck, Posie?” Killian hissed. “Are you trying to kill yourself?”

I glared up at him. “Yes, Mr. Warrick,” I snapped, ignoring how he had called me by my first name “How’d you guess?”

His blue eyes flared, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he was going to shave soon. He looked gorgeous with or without his thick five o’clock shadow, so I really didn’t care either way. Still, for whatever reason, I thought about his shaving habits a lot.

“This isn’t funny,” he snapped back. “You could have gotten seriously hurt. If you don’t know how to use the equip-”

“Don’t go there,” I warned. “I know how to use a damn treadmill.”

“You falling flat on your face claims otherwise.”

“So, I guess I’m barred from the gym now, huh?”

He ran a hand through his hair. “Jesus Christ, you’re driving me fucking crazy,” he said underneath his breath, and my stomach flipped at all the ways that he could possibly mean that.

“I’ll just go since I was done with my workout anyway,” I muttered, embarrassment back.

“Do you need to get checked out by a doctor?” he asked, and he really looked genuinely concerned.

“I’m fine,” I kept muttering.

“Goddamn it, Posie,” he sighed, and his use of my name for a second time was my cue to get the hell out of here before I did something really stupid, my fall notwithstanding.

“I’ll see you later, Mr. Warrick,” I said as I turned to flee the scene of the crime, all the while thinking that science lied about those damn endorphins because I didn’t feel happy at all.

Chapter 10

Killian~

It wasn’t a matter of trust whenever I was here because I trusted every single person in this room. It was more a matter of recognizing just where you were listed on the food chain, and even wild tigers knew to tread carefully around a pride of lions.

These people were definitely lions.

“It’s good to see you, Killian,” Ria greeted, disarming me with that smile of hers. Speaking objectively, Saveria had to be one of the most beautiful women on the planet. She was simply stunning to look at, and it didn’t help that she had these odd-colored eyes that always looked as if they were seeing right to your soul.

“It’s good to see you, too,” I returned as she gave me a hug. Pulling back, she added, “We don’t see you guys often.”

I gave her a sheepish smile. “I’m not exactly in Morgan City for a friendly visit, Ria.”

The woman winked at me. “I know.”

Stepping back, she made room for her husband to greet me. Reaching out, Francisco shook my hand. “Warrick.”

“Benetti,” I greeted.

“It’s good to see you again, Killian.”

I turned to shake hands with Vincent Fiore, Ria’s brother. Where Ria had eyes the color of a magical prism, Vincent had these eerie yellow eyes that reminded me of demons engulfed in flames. Vincent and Ria had a younger brother named Dante that had the same yellow eyes as Vincent, and it was reputed that he was a bit of a sociopathic psychopath. He was their torturer, and he was supposedly a master at his craft, though I’d never seen it for myself.

“Vincent,” I greeted as I shook his hand.
