“Maybe.”

“Thank you, Posie.”

“I didn’t do anything,” I returned kindly. “I just listened.”

“More people should,” she replied softly.

Yeah, more people really should.

Chapter 24

Killian~

I was awakened with a start and my instincts had me reaching underneath the mattress for the gun that I traveled with.

“You’re not going to find it,” a voice said from the darkness. “But feel free to keep looking for it if you want to.”

I quickly reached over and turned on the lamp on the nightstand. The only reason that I wasn’t jumping up from the bed was because the voice was female, and I wasn’t feeling particularly threaten, so much as surprised.

When my eyes were finally able to focus, I saw Lennon Marlow-Prince sitting on one of the armchairs that decorated my hotel suite. She was staring at me, a daring smirk on her face, my gun in her hands, looking like she’d been airbrushed to perfection. However, with that black hair, those green eyes, and the confidence that was radiating off her in waves, she reminded me of a fucking demon.

“Do I need to introduce myself?” she asked casually, but her voice caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up.

“I know who you are,” I replied. Even though I’d never met her, her family was everywhere, so you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn’t know who she was; that whole famous for being famous thing. Plus, Posie had pictures of them hanging up everywhere in her condo. I’d gotten a good look at the entire Marlow, Reed, McCellan, and McIntire clans over these past few days.

“Good,” she remarked sinisterly. “Especially, since I know who you are.”

Not knowing where this conversation was going, I threw the covers back, then reached down to pick my pajama pants up off the floor. Luckily, I’d been wearing my underwear, but something told me that a naked man wouldn’t faze this woman.

After putting my pants on, I said, “My identity is hardly a secret.” I wanted to ask her how she got in here, but I doubted that she’d tell me, so I decided against wasting time with pointless questions.

“Your identity, sure,” she agreed. “But I’m not talking about Killian Warrick, the generous philanthropist and benefactor of all things good.” She leaned back in the chair, her fingers toying with my gun. “I’m talking about Killian Warrick, the man that travels randomly under the guise of work. I’m talking about Killian Warrick, the man who rubs elbows with the likes of Francisco Benetti.” I could feel my chest tighten at that. “I’m talking about Killian Warrick, the man who is Ellie Myers’ big brother.”

“What do you know about my sister?” I growled, ready to defend Ellie against any threat.

There was something in Lennon’s eyes that reminded me of evil and it was an uncanny thing. “I know that your sister suffered greatly during her college years. I know that she has a wonderful husband and two great children. I know that, by all accounts, she’s happy with her life.”

“How do-”

“I also know that you had plans on following law before your sister’s attack,” she went on, and I could feel my jaw clench. “I know that you invested all your millions into making more millions, so that you could start your foundation. A foundation that’s named after a butterfly tattoo that your sister has.”

I started shaking my head. “You can’t know that,” I bit out. “How…how…”

How in the fuck could she know all these personal things about me and Ellie?

“You’d be amazed at what I know,” she said, not bothering to elaborate. “Still, I’m not here for your sister, or even you, if you must know the truth. I’m here for Posie.”

“What about her?” I asked, my heart starting to hammer in my chest.

“Does she know?” Before I could answer, Lennon added, “See, because I can’t see how she could. If she did, she would have told me.”

“Know what?” I stalled, even though I knew exactly what Lennon was talking about.

“Does Posie know that you’re not here on business, Mr. Warrick?”

I could feel the rush of blood in my ears, and I couldn’t believe that this was happening. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, so that’s how you want to play this?” she mocked. “Okay. I’m game.”
