“We tried your cabin, but no one answered,” Alec adds.

“What’s happened?”

My wolf whines inside of me, reminding me that we need to get back to our mate.

“We found his trail. He’s on the move today. He was headed back to the rental cabin,” Flint tells me.

“That’s close to my place. He could still find her.”

“I know. What do you want us to do?” Alec asks.

All of the guys gather around me and I take a deep breath.

“I’m going to go home and check on my mate. Can you track him and let me know if he gets close to my place?”

“Of course, boss,” Davis says, serious for once.

“Someone needs to stay here in case there’s an emergency at the resort,” I tell them, already heading for the door.

“I’ll stay,” Ash says.

I can hear them making up a plan on who will take what section of the mountain. I hop on the snowmobile and take off towards home, keeping my eye out for anyone lurking nearby as I go.

I head inside and straight for the bedroom. Elle is up and talking on the satellite phone. I know that it must be Tessa that she’s talking to, and I pause.

Should I tell her about what’s happened? I don’t want to worry her or stress her out, but she has a right to know.

My wolf whines and paws at me, and I head to our mate’s side.

“I’ve got to go, but I’ll call you later,” she promises her friend.

“Hey, where did you run off to?” She asks me.

“I had to go into work for a bit.”

“Oh, are you done for the day?”

“No… Elle, we’ve picked up his scent,” I tell her, and she tenses.

“Where? Do you have him?” She rushes to ask, sitting up straight in bed.

“No, but we’re tracking him. It looks like he was headed over to your rental cabin.”

“He can’t know that I’m here then, right? No one saw me come here.”

“I think so,” I tell her, but deep down, I have some doubts.

I was so wrapped up in finally having my fated mate that I haven’t been checking on the surrounding area the way that I should have.

She sucks in a sharp breath, and I study her. She looks pale all of a sudden and my stomach cramps.

“What is it?” I ask her, taking her cold hand in mine.

“Earlier, I… I could have sworn that I saw someone outside,” she whispers. “I was grabbing the phone and just glanced out the window, but I thought that it was just a mistake or I wasn’t looking closely enough.”

“I’m sure that it’s nothing,” I lie. “I’ll go check it out.”

“No!” She yells, her grip on me tightening.
