“Don’t bother. We’re alone. No one will interrupt us here.”

“Yeah? Interrupt what? What do you want?”

“I was going to ask you, Shithead. Do you mind if I call you Shithead?”

“Fuck off. It’s Ray.”

“I think Shithead suits you better, but sure. Ray – you get handsy with all the waitstaff, or just the one?”

“Handsy? I wasn’t handsy,” he started.

I leaned forward and sank a punch into his soft paunch.

“Every time you lie to me, this is what you’ll get. Choose your next words carefully.”

“You’ve got the wrong guy – I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ray muttered defensively. His shifty little eyes were still darting back and forth.

“I think you know exactly who I’m talking about. Eve.”

“What about her?”

“Do you grab all the waitresses’ asses, or just hers?”

Ray shrugged. “It’s just an inside joke. We go way back. I’ve been coming in here for years.”

“Do you think she finds it funny?”

Ray shrugged. “It’s not my problem if she can’t take a joke. Get away from me or I’ll call the cops.”

“My family owns the cops. Have you touched all the waitresses, or just her?” I ground out, getting madder by the second. The thought that this pig could just go around touching who he wanted, making them feel uncomfortable, and vulnerable, taking away their free will…It triggered the most violent part of me, and I had no way to stop it.

“I didn’t do anything,” Ray maintained.

“I saw you.”

“You saw wrong!”

“I don’t believe you, Ray.” My punch took him across the jaw. My rib muscles screamed at me, thanks to Asher’s beating, but injuries included, I could take a man like Ray on my worst day.

“I saw you. You scared her. Violated her. You have to pay for that.”

He was just straightening up when I gripped his hand. I spun him into the wall with force and got his wrist in a lock. Slowly, I tightened the lock until his bones ground under my hand.

Ray’s face was turning red. His free hand clawed helplessly at my arm. I felt no sympathy for the man. He’d upset Eve. He deserved everything that was coming to him and more.

“Touch her again, and you’ll have me to deal with. Touch another waitress again, and you’ll have me to deal with…Come to this diner again, and you’re dead.”

His wrist snapped, and he stuffed his other hand into his mouth to muffle the scream.

I released him from my hold and watched him sink to his knees, gulping down air.

I took a few steps back. “You see her on the street, you turn and walk the other way. Got it?”

Ray looked up at me. “Why do you even care about a little whore like her? They’re a dime a dozen?—”

I didn’t hear the rest. I grabbed his other hand and twisted it so hard, the snap was like a gunshot.

Some people were too dumb to listen to warnings. They needed a proper lesson, like Ray. I was more than happy to teach him.
