“So, this is the dorm you’re staying in?” She nodded to some of the seniors lounging in the kitchen and wiggled her eyebrows. “The décor is good, I have to say.”

“It’s okay, but I’m in a different apartment.” I grinned at her enthusiasm.

“You know!” Isabelle jumped up, excited like she’d just remembered something. “I heard that the richest guy at HHU lives here. He and his friends are all on the team,” she chattered away between sips of her drink.

I scanned the table for something that looked safe enough to drink. I was a bit of a lightweight, considering I hadn’t had much practice drinking in high school. I opted for a beer in the end. Lily uncapped one and then handed it to me, before clinking her bottle against mine.

“Cheers!”

“Cheers.” I took a long swallow.

“Oh my God, is that one of them? I don’t know why you want to be a cheerleader, Eve. The hockey players are so much hotter,” Isabelle said and then gripped my hand. “They’re coming right this way. Act cool.”

Her hiss made me laugh as Cayden reached us first. Even I could admit that the Hellion forward was hot in his low-hanging loose pants and tight T-shirt, the same green as his girlfriend’s eyes.

Isabelle made a noise like she was dying. Cayden wrapped his arms around Lily’s shoulders from behind and drew her into him.

When no one acknowledged the hot hockey player leaning over Lily, Isabelle cleared her throat, her gaze riveted to Cayden.

“What?” Lily asked and touched her shoulder. “Do I have something there?”

Her clueless tone made me laugh, and Isabelle joined in. Cayden caught Lily’s chin in a soft grip and turned her face toward his.

“No, Freckles, you’ve got something right here.” He leaned in and touched his lips to hers. “Let me get it.” Then he pressed in again and captured her mouth in a deeper kiss.

Her body was pinned against his, neck twisted around, face imprisoned, and the way Cayden was kissing her wasn’t appropriate for public viewing. I stepped away, tugging Isabelle along with me.

“Let’s give them some privacy. It has been a whole two hours since they saw each other, so, you know…” I trailed off at her expression.

“Are you telling me that your friend is Coach Williams’ daughter? The one who’s dating Cayden West?”

“Seems like it, right?”

Isabelle glanced back and then away quickly and fanned her face. “I feel so single right now.”

I took a long pull of beer. “Join the club.”

A couple of hours in, and a few more beers down, Isabelle and I headed up to the rooftop space, trailing after Lily and Cayden. The roof of the Hellions’ dorm had all-weather seating, a hot tub, and string lights.

Thankfully, no one was in the hot tub. Instead, a group was sitting on the comfy overstuffed sofas that encircled a fire pit. Marcus was wandering around, holding some kind of spinner.

“Roomie, nice of you to join us, finally.” He grinned at me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “I’m trying to get a game together to save us from terminal boredom.”

“Aren’t you tired after the game?”

Marcus winced. “Tyler – is it more tiring to suck or kick ass? I can’t decide.”

Tyler stood from his seat at the edge of the fire pit and wandered over to us. Lily and Cayden had settled in, and Isabelle was lingering beside me. I introduced her to the players around us.

“Nice to meet you guys. Good game,” Isabelle said.

“It wasn’t, but sweet of you to say so, beautiful,” Marcus said, giving her an interested smile. Marcus Bailey was an incorrigible flirt. “You’re going to play our game with us, aren’t you?”

“Depends on the game,” Isabelle remarked.

“She’s too smart for you, Bailey, better leave it there.” Tyler elbowed Marcus and gave an easy grin. He turned that beam on me. “Are you playing, Eve?”

“Eve loves games, she’s an expert at playing people,” a deep voice spoke from behind me.
