“Uh… Nothing. I just saw someone I know. Or, knew, technically. Hell, maybe I never knew her at all.”

“What?” he repeated.

“That girl over there?” Teddy’s wife asked, nodding toward Chandler.

“Yeah.”

“It’s Chandler Wolfe, right?”

“You know her?”

“Of her. I skated a little. Years ago. I wasn’t any good or anything, but I still watch on TV sometimes. I’ve seen her skating pairs. Is she in town for the competition?”

“Yeah, she is.”

“You know her from your skating days?”

“Yeah. We were in the same program for a while.”

“You should go say hi to her,” Teddy suggested.

“I can’t. She doesn’t even recognize me. I saw her last night, and it was like nothing was there.”

“Ouch,” Teddy replied.

“It happens, Belle. Not a big deal. We see people in one context and then not for a while, and that context changes. So, I wouldn’t be offended or anything,” his wife added.

“Yeah,” Teddy chimed back in, agreeing with his wife. “I mean, look at Superman: he takes off a pair of glasses, and no one knows that was just Clark Kent.”

His wife chuckled and said, “Basically, yeah.”

Belle looked over at Chandler and turned away quickly when she noticed that Chandler was looking at her.

“Maybe she recognizes you, after all,” Teddy suggested.

“Fuck. Now, I’m the creepy person who works at the Ice Park and stares at skaters.”

“Just go say hi,” Teddy repeated and took a drink of his beer.

“Fine. But just for a minute,” she relented. “And only because she’s going to be around for the competition, and I don’t want it to keep being awkward.”

“Sure. Okay. Take your beer with you,” he said.

“I’ll be right back,” Belle argued as she stood up.

“No, you won’t,” he replied with a smirk. “She’s hot, Belle.”

“Excuse me?” his wife asked.

“I love you, but she’s hot. You can admit that.”

His wife looked over at Chandler and replied, “Yeah, all right. She’s hot.” She held up her hand, and Teddy high-fived it.

“You two are weird.” Belle laughed a little and took her beer with her as she walked over to the booth. Then, she cleared her throat and said, “Uh… Hi.”

“Hi,” Chandler replied.

“Just, uh, needed a drink?”
