“Standard. Sequence?”

“Axel, Mohawk, Axel.”

“Also standard.”

“Sure,” Belle replied with a little laugh. “Want to see me do them or just keep talking about it?”

Catalina laughed and said, “Show me what you’ve got. Let’s run through all jump types first before we get to combos and sequences, though. Think you can give me the doubles, and we’ll work our way up to triples?”

“Can Chandler land triples?” Belle teased as she started to skate.

“Yes, I can. I’ve even landed a quad.”

“You have?”

“In practice, not in competition.”

“We won’t be doing a quad in competition,” Catalina stated.

“Why not?” Belle asked.

“Can you land a quad?” Catalina asked.

“I’ve only tried a few times, and I fell on my ass, but if I work at it, I probably could. I never needed to land one for any reason, so I didn’t put any effort into it.”

“At least, she doesn’t seem to have an ego,” Catalina said to Chandler. “She’s not going to waste our time.”

“Nope,” Belle said.

Belle proceeded to run through every jump type allowed in figure skating and landed them all perfectly, including her double Axel. Then, she went and did a triple, for good measure, making Chandler laugh a little as she continued to skate around and watch.

“Well, all right,” Catalina said just as her phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket and glanced at the readout. “It’s Mom. I’ve got to take this.”

Catalina walked off the ice and went into the gym for some privacy, which she usually did when she was about to discuss anything related to Chandler’s skating. She probably wanted to tell their mother about the whole female partner thing and give an update on Chandler’s skating.

“Nice job,” Chandler told Belle to distract herself from whatever Catalina would be telling their mother.

“Thanks. What’s that all about?” Belle asked and skated over to stand next to Chandler.

“They talk about me behind my back,” she replied with a shoulder shrug. “Cat told me it’s because she needs to be objective, and if I’m within earshot, she’ll try to spare my feelings instead of being honest.”

“Really? Her?” Belle pointed at Catalina, whom they could see through the glass doors of the gym. “She tries to spare your feelings? Since when? I’ve only really seen her be a bitch to you on the ice. Today is maybe the first time I’ve seen her be remotely nice.”

“Yeah,” Chandler let out without adding anything else to it.

“Why does she have to talk to your mom behind your back, though? It’s your career.”

“They’ve always done that. Since Cat became my coach, they’ve talked to each other more than either of them talks to me.”

“Have you ever thought about Cat not being your coach and just being your sister?”

“I don’t even know what we’d have to talk about if we weren’t talking about skating,” she said and looked down at the ice. “It’s not just the age difference. I know we love each other; we’re sisters. But I don’t know that we like each other all that much.”

“I used to wish that I had a sister, but seeing you with yours… I’m kind of glad I never did. Sad for my parents because I just found out from my dad that they wanted more kids, but I’m glad I didn’t have to deal with whatever you two have going on.”

“Can we change the subject?” Chandler asked, turning to her.

“Sure. To what? Your quad? Can you show me?”
