“Hell, yeah!” Belle said when she stopped her skates. “Works so much better with the turn.”

“Yeah,” she replied with a little laugh. “Want to go again?”

“Let’s get it right a few times and maybe rework the sequence after it. Then, we’ll go. Up for it?”

“I’m game, yeah,” Chandler confirmed.

An hour later, Chandler wasn’t in her bathtub but in her shower, letting hot water sluice over her skin. She hadn’t iced anything yet, and she was starving but hadn’t ordered anything for dinner, so she would likely just go downstairs and make something quick for herself and bring it back up to her room because she didn’t want to risk seeing or talking to Catalina. As big as the house was, they always seemed to run into each other whenever they were fighting and didn’t want to see the other person, which was often these days.

Chandler dressed out of her shower and brushed her hair after towel-drying it, but she left it wet to air-dry the rest of the way. She sat down on her bed and didn’t know what to do with herself. It felt strange not going down to dinner. She, Belle, and Cat had had dinner together every night since Belle had arrived, and she’d wished that she’d thought of inviting Belle out to a restaurant or had invited herself over to Belle’s apartment to have dinner with just her.

Deciding that she could at least check on Belle to see if either of those things would interest her now, Chandler left her room and headed to the attached apartment. She knocked on the door and waited.

“Hey,” Belle said when she answered a minute later.

Chandler looked Belle up and down. She was wearing a pair of nice jeans with black boots, but not winter boots. They were dressy boots, and her skinny jeans were tucked into them. Her shirt was a steel-gray button-down, and she had on a black skinny tie, too. Her short hair was back, with a little product in it, but not so much that anyone else would be able to tell it was there.

“Uh…” Chandler pointed at her.

“Uh, what?” Belle teased. “Come in?”

“Sure,” she replied and walked into the apartment.

Belle closed the door behind her and asked, “Did you need something?”

“You’re dressed up.”

“Yeah, I just showered and was about to head out. Everything okay? Did Cat say or do something? Need me to kick her ass for you? I will.”

Chandler laughed softly and said, “No, I haven’t seen her. I don’t even know if she’s home.”

“Okay. What’s up?” Belle sat on the sofa in the middle of the room.

Chandler noticed Belle’s phone, wallet, and keys were on the table in front of her.

“Where are you going? Wait. I don’t mean that. That sounds like you can’t go without telling me or something.” Chandler shook her head. “You can go wherever you want, obviously.”

“I was about to order a car to take me over to Jay’s.”

“What’s Jay’s?”

“Um… A gay bar about forty minutes from here, according to Google Maps.”

“There’s a gay bar here?”

“Next town over. And it looks to be the only one in the state, or, at least, pretty close to it. I think it’s more geared toward the boys, but when I looked it up, I saw that it has some people like me in some of the photos. It’s more club than bar, but it had a room that looked pretty chill. Like, if I just wanted a drink, I could do that. But if I wanted to dance, I could do that, too. So, I thought I’d check it out.”

“Oh,” she let out. “What about dinner?”

“I had a frozen burrito.”

“You… How did you even get one of those in here?”

“I don’t think your sister noticed it. It’s not that bad for me, though. It was steak and cheese.”

“That’s all you’re eating?”

“For now. They have food there.”
