Power swelled within her as she watched Raum open his pants and rub his pathetic excuse for a dick while he spat into the crevice of Nithe’s ass. She felt the floodgates open as Raum’s soul was suddenly exposed to her hunger, and she pulled hard. In the end her shadows stopped her. Not ours to slaughter, not yet, they whispered.

As he knelt behind Nithe, ready to take what he had no right to, she felt an explosion of pure agony sear across her shoulders, fire filled her vision, and just before her sight was consumed by flames, she saw a look of awe fill Nithe’s partially scaled features. Her body exploded with red shadows and light as pain tore her apart. The sizzle of the scar on her palm fading barely registered through the myriad sensations assaulting her body. A feeling of serenity settled over her after what seemed like only moments had passed. Her eyes opened to a scene full of silent destruction and a calm sort of chaos.

Fuck! No! It couldn’t be?

Seriously, it was just his luck, wasn’t it? She could have ended up anywhere but here, and yet here she was. An angel hybrid, and not just any angel hybrid, if his guess hit the mark.

His doorstep, and he’d seriously fucked up, but there was no better place for her, he supposed. Except for where he was going to have to send her. The threat to her had become so much greater. Just not from where he’d expected, and with the knowledge of what she was, the contract was broken.

Balthazar rose to his feet from where he’d been thrown by the powerful blast her full manifestation had triggered. She was divine. Her shadows, like fire, filled the space of both cells and the hallway in which he stood. The only clear spots surrounded Nithe and he. Which was a blessing as he watched Raum writhe in agony before going still, burns and mangled flesh littered his body. He doubted the prick would heal from those for a while. Shadow inflicted injuries were rather nasty, if you weren’t a Shadow Hound yourself, anyway. If his suspicions were correct, Raum’s injuries would be even worse.

Ah, fuck it! If he was right, he was about to find himself on a brand-new shit list. Thankfully he knew he could hold his own if he had to, but he’d rather not fight his old friend if he could help it.

Jezzie’s body levitated from the ground, suspended by the divine rite of passage awarded to her. When her shadows settled, their work done, she lowered softly to her feet. Two large, perfect wings bracketed her from behind. They were to fucking die for. Thick black feathers shone in the dull light. Along the lower edge they changed color, like a rainbow in stark relief against the black of the others. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink, a sight he’d never seen the likes of before in all his countless years.

Shattered remnants of spelled glass littered the ground as he walked forward slowly. He didn’t want to scare her, she’d be on edge from the events of the day already, but the manifestation would make it all one hundred times worse. She was in for a rough few days, maybe longer.

Fire still filled her eyes with an eerie glow, and her body twitched, her shadows shifting angrily. He stopped. He heard the sound of movement from behind him and spun. Nithe stood near Raum’s twisted body. Free of the cross completely, not a scratch marred his form, his eyes shone bright, like the dragon he was, and dark green, iridescent scales covered parts of his face, chest, legs, and arms. All the places he’d been harmed. Yeah, including the guy’s monster dick, which was now covered in the same scales. As he watched, they retracted, and what was revealed, thanks to his partial shift, was a miniature version of what must be his dragon cock. Even in miniature form it was twice the size of some of the most well-endowed males he’d seen. Thank you internet porn.

Raum, who twitched and writhed at his feet, moved to drag himself away. Balthazar moved back toward him, but Jezzie was quicker, her shadows struck and a shimmer filled the air before Raum fell still once more.

Now was not the time for questions, now was the time to get them to safety. The time to bring Raum to justice was here and if it sacrificed his mission, then so be it. The stakes had just been raised. He had a duty to protect the children of his two best friends, and Ramiel could suck it if he didn’t appreciate his sacrifice. He’d take out the prick himself if what Raum had said were true. But he didn’t believe it to be so.

“Nithe, press Jezzie’s hand to the jagged stone beneath the window behind Jezzie. I highly doubt she’ll allow it of me right now.”

“Come now, Ballzy, I do trust you, not really sure why, and it took some time, but I do.” Her voice was huskier than normal, as if her shadows were threaded through it; it added an almost smokey quality to her normal tone.

“But seeing as I can’t seem to move right now, Nithe may do the honors.”

Nithe moved forward, took Jezzie’s hand in his, and led her to the stone he’d indicated. Her palm pressed against the cold wall and they heard a distinct click. A two foot square of concrete flooring dissolved before their eyes, to reveal the two large backpacks he’d hidden there. Thank fuck he’d managed to get rough sizes for Nithe’s clothing out of Raum before they got here.

“There are clothes in them for each of you. Get dressed quick, Nithe, you don’t have much time. Raum’s boss will know he is incapacitated and injured. There is no way he wouldn’t be tracking that shit since Raum is his biggest, most loyal asset.”

“Why the fuck should I trust you? You work with him!” Nithe’s partial change had the rasp of his dragon tongue layered through his voice as he pointed to his tormentor.

“Because, boy, while I work for them on the surface, I work for the other side in truth. Now, dress! Unless you don’t want to protect the treasure you can’t keep your eyes off of?”

Nithe moved so fast he was almost a blur. Leather reinforced paratrooper pants, a black fitted muscle shirt, and sturdy leather boots were donned with precision. But his cock still bobbed out, the button fly undone. He winked at Balthazar.

“Sorry, out it stays. I cannae shift it back until it’s healed right.” Balthazar looked away and shook his head, of course he couldn’t.

“Don’t worry. If you shift in them, they won’t tear. They’ll just melt away and reform when you shift back.”

Nithe looked at him with questioning suspicion, “How did you know I could shift?”

“I didn’t, but until now I didn’t know what Jezzie was either, so I made preparations based on all possibilities. I wish she’d told me, and saved us all this drama, but I would have stayed silent if I were her too. It was the smartest thing to do, though I don’t think she actually had much choice in the matter.”

Nithe grabbed Jezzie around the waist just as her knees buckled.

“Take both packs, she’ll need to change later. I’m going to open a specific portal for you. It is the safest place I can think to send you. Except for the parts that aren’t, and for that I am sorry. Oh, and Nithe, don’t believe a word that piece of shit said about your father. The male I know would not act with such dishonor. Try to keep an open mind. For your sake, and hers. I fear you will have some competition for her affections.”

Nithe nodded, but his eyes flashed with ire at the mention of his father. He grabbed the packs from the ground and scooped Jezzie up into his arms.

“What about him?” Nithe said, pointing to Raum’s still body. “What will happen to him? I cannot allow him to go free, not after everything.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sending a request for the collection of Tartarus’ newest inmate as soon as you are safely on the other side of the portal and out of his reach. Jezzie, luv? What exactly did you do to Raum, in case they ask?” Balthazar asked softly.

“Oh, that. I ate his emotions as I sipped his icky black soul. It was truly disgusting, Ballzy Boo.”
