And suddenly, they were falling, spiraling in the uncontrollable rush of their very own paradise.

A quick shower later, during which they made love again—slowly this time—they were getting dressed and ready for dinner with Uncle Micah as they talked about the bond. Her shadows and his dragon holding their own personal confab. The unanimous consensus regarding mid-flight sex was a resounding yes! Ten out of ten, would highly recommend.

Nithe sat behind her on the bed and brushed her hair. The simple act felt so amazingly intimate and special. He was always so careful with knots and tangles. He felt the missing pieces within the bond, the empty spaces. Maybe not the same way she did, but it was still there. Jezzie knew though, if it came down to it and the other two were duds, Nithe would be enough for her and her eternal happiness. You couldn’t miss what you never had, right? At least that was the theory she set on operating under.

When they reached the dining room an hour later, Jezzie was a little surprised to see Tana seated at her usual spot, only a slightly strained smile graced her beautiful face. She raced over and gave her a gentle hug where she sat, insisting she not stand, and quickly moved to sit opposite her cousin. Nithe held her chair out for her, and tucked her in, ever the gallant gentleman she’d come to love. He made her feel like a goddamn princess, and she’d quickly realized she damn well liked it.

“I must admit I’m surprised you’re up and about already, Cousin. Seriously, you should still be resting,” Jezzie said, concern threaded through her voice.

“Chill, Coz. I’m fine. Whatever you guys did, I feel better than I ever did with the stuff Leraie gave me. Thanks for that, by the way. I mean, it still hurts a bit, and I’m horny as fuck, but it’s so much better. Sorry, Dad.”

Uncle Micah put his hands over his ears and lalala’ed as theatrically as he could in response, causing Tana and Jezzie to giggle like schoolgirls, and Nithe to snort at their antics. Yes, actually snort. She wouldn’t have been surprised if actual smoke rings had come out of his nostrils. The thought made her giggle even more.

Jezzie was relieved to see her cousin really did look good. Small creases still furrowed her brow and the strain of discomfort still covered her features, but she was up and about, and happy, so Jezzie wasn’t going to send her back to bed before she had to.

The mood was thankfully lighter after the events of the day as they ate and joked. The large dining room felt cozy and warm with the love of family filling it. Questions flew about how Jezzie knew Leraie, how she was a witch on top of everything else, and what the hell was up with the damn sentient tree carving and how it’d slapped Uncle Micah’s ass like that? A question said uncle seemed intent on avoiding, even as his cheeks reddened with his attempts to change the subject.

The food had been amazing, as always, and if she’d been wearing pants, buttons would have popped and zippers would have busted. She gave a proud pat to the little bump of her stomach which contained her most recently devoured food baby, and took another sip of her special dark red wine, and sighed contentedly into the crook of Nithe’s shoulder. There was no better remedy for blood loss in angelkind than this particular beverage.

They’d moved into Uncle Micah’s sitting room about an hour ago, and were just chilling on the sofa finishing their drinks, conversation lightly flowing.

“Jezzie Bear?”

“Yeah, Tana Cub?”

“Think we can have a girl’s night, tomorrow? I mean, if it’s okay for me to borrow your lady for a bit, Ni?”

Tana looked Nithe right in the eyes with that puppy dog look all five-year olds can pull off perfectly. Since Nithe viewed her as a little sister, it brought him to his knees. With a big sigh he shook his head ruefully.

“I suppose I could go spend one night with the princes. Thad’s been practically begging for a rematch since the last time I wiped him off the face of his Dungeons and Dragons chess board. So, if you wanna have some Tana time, Jez, it’s A-OK with me. Not that the choice is ever mine, mind. You are free to make those yourself, as you always have been.”

He nuzzled the top of Jezzie’s hair. The strong scent which belonged to only him surrounded her in a cloud of comfort. God, it felt good. She breathed deep, taking him into her lungs and smiled up at him.

“Girl’s night it is.”

Tana squealed but lacked the energy to jump around like she usually would, but the happy glint was still visible in her eyes. Until the light shifted and a curious look filled her eyes. Curiosity mixed with the tiredness she’d been fighting for the last ten minutes.

“Switching subjects. How are the dream guys going? Still hanging around?”

“Yep,” Jezzie and Nithe answered in unison.

“I know you guys have discussed what might happen if or when you meet them. But what if only one of you is there the first time it happens?”

“Highly unlikely, especially here, but we trust each other, right, Jez? We’ve done so much in those dreams already. There is no jealousy on my end when it comes to those two males. But, if they hurt her? My dragon will eat them whole, extra crispy, with no regrets. I’ll even break out the marinade.”

Jezzie chuckled against his chest.

“You’d have to get in line, Ni. I’d get first dibs,” Jezzie added.

“On that note, it’s time for bed, kids. The Elders need to talk.”

Leraie’s sudden appearance in the small room startled them all, including her uncle.

“Seriously? That punk assed bitch of a motherfucker?—”

“Language, Michael. The Almighty does everything for a reason. Just because you don’t know what it is, does not give you leave to act like an ungrateful heathen.”

As he stood in his study staring incredulously at Leraie, Michael couldn’t keep the anger and pent-up resentment from his expletive laden response. He wanted to rage, to tear the room apart. To storm the heavenly gates and demand the justice long denied him. Long denied to Tana, and to his wife.
