“I understand how you feel—trust me, I do. And I’m not here to make excuses for him. I’m trying to appeal to you—if not for his sake, for the sake of June, please stay. That little girl requires a lot of care and attention. She’s still very young. He’ll have no choice but to get used to having you around and stop being an ass. I promise you, he’s not a monster. He’s just walking through grief. I’ll speak to him after now. I’ll get him to treat you better, I promise.”

I wasn’t sure if I was truly willing to leave as I had claimed. Strangely, I had begun to develop feelings for my boss. Seeing how deeply the pain of losing his wife had affected him only convinced me further that he was the kind of man who loved with all his being. I found that incredibly sexy.

The mornings when I saw him wearing nothing but his tight shorts were the most uncomfortable for me. I had a weird craving to feel his thighs, then get down on my knees and suck him off.

For a man, he had a well-rounded butt. I was tempted to spank it on some occasions. His best looks for me were when he wore corporate pants with a shirt tucked in or when he wore fitted jeans with a tee, definitely tucked in! Those exposed his ass cheeks rather nicely. He looked good in anything regardless and sure did know how to dress!

I had only been this enticed by a man once, and it was a long-distance relationship. Hudson made me desire things that I hadn’t desired in a really long while. My love life really had no interesting bits to it, a sad reality I desperately needed to change.

Chapter 4

Hudson

I had woken up startled that night. I had the dream again. I had relived Olivia’s demise once more. I wiped my eyes and looked toward the window—it was raining profusely, and cold air blew across the room repeatedly.

I got up and shut the window silts. I put on my flip-flops and went to check on June. She was already under her blanket, so I just closed the windows in the room.

I paused for a while and just stared at her. How much she reminded me of Olivia! She stirred in her bed once, then continued sleeping. I smiled and turned off the lights.

Maria had gone home for the weekend, so it was just June, Madison, and I in the house. Amy had been very upset with me about how I had spoken to Madison. She further threatened not to get involved in helping me get help again if Madison were to leave.

I felt bad for some of the words I said to her. I definitely had spoken out of turn. I didn’t know how to say I was sorry, though. My pride wouldn’t let me.

I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. The lights in the living room were still on. I casually strolled into the living room with the glass of water in my hand.

I got to the living room to find a figure crouched up on a couch. It was Madison, freezing from the cold.

“Madison?” She opened her eyes and saw me standing beside the sofa where she lay.

“I couldn’t sleep in the room. It’s so cold in there.”

“Why not just shut the windows, then?”

“The windows are faulty.”

“That can’t be. How do I not know about that?”

“I was going to tell you, but there wasn’t any need for it at the time. It’s never been this cold on any night since I moved in here.”

“How about using your blanket then? You’re still shivering.”

“The blankets are made from polyester. It gives me a rash.”

“Oh my! I thought I had gotten rid of all those blankets. The interior decorator I hired seemed to have an obsession with wool and polyester. I had the ones in my room and in June’s changed because we’re allergic to them as well. I guess because no one has really occupied the room you sleep in now, it didn’t occur to me to have that one changed as well.”

“It’s all right. I’ll just snuggle here until morning, I can manage.”

“No, that just won’t do. You’re going to freeze out by morning.” I thought for a split second. Then, much like a last resort, I said reluctantly, “You can come and share my blanket in my room.”

She looked at me like I was beginning to lose it, eyes wide open.

“What? Oh, come on, I would never take advantage of anyone without their consent.”

“Why don’t I just go share June’s blanket instead?”

“You’ve been to June’s room countless times already, come on. You know she’s got a mini blanket, not enough to accommodate you. Just come share mine.”

I assumed that could serve as some form of peace offering. “Why are you suddenly being nice to me? You really do not have to pretend to care. It’s just us here.”
