“Three it is. I will see you then, Elissa.”

The moment they hung up, Cora burst into activity. She hadn’t expected the interview to be so soon, but she certainly wasn’t complaining. She booked a flight online for later that night and a hotel for when she landed, then started packing.

She made it to the airport in good time and had an uneventful flight, checking in to the hotel just before midnight.

Cora knew she should sleep. She needed to get a good eight hours and still have time to do some preparation for the interview tomorrow. However, sleep was hard to find. Excitement was bubbling through her veins, and it was difficult to relax.

Eventually, she managed to drift off by turning on a guided meditation on her phone and concentrating on the visualization rather than her anticipation of the interview tomorrow.

Cora’s alarm woke her up at ten the next morning. She managed to catch the end of the hotel breakfast, gorging on chocolate waffles to appease her nerves.

Cora went back to her room, opened her laptop and started doing some research. She’d already done quite extensive research on Sweet Hill, but that was with regards to what kind of place it would be as a working environment.

Now, she needed to figure out what sorts of questions she was going to be asked in the interview and prepare for them.

Cora was confident in her skills and knowledge and was sure she’d ace any questions based in her field of specialty. Her research now was more focused on hospital policy and how she’d be expected to conduct herself as a potential employee.

She made notes on a sheet of paper for several hours, until her brain felt fried from all the information she was trying to shove into it.

She took a break for lunch before reading through her notes. It had been an intense morning, but Cora was confident that she could at least answer any questions that she’d be asked correctly.

Her nerves mounted as she headed to Sweet Hill Hospital forty-five minutes early. Better to be early than late, especially since she didn’t know exactly where Dr. Frame’s office was.

It turned out to be a lot easier than she expected. Hospital reception directed her to the admin headquarters, where Dr. Frame and several of her support staff were based. Cora knew that Dr. Frame used to be a neurosurgeon before she became head of the hospital, but she didn’t do surgeries very often anymore.

Dr. Frame was waiting for her and called her in when she knocked on the door.

“Cora, please sit down.”

Cora made the mistake of glancing up as she was pulling out a chair and promptly tripped over her own feet, going tumbling to the ground and taking the chair with her.

“Are you alright?” Dr. Frame hurried around the desk, which didn’t help matters. Cora stared up at her, gaping like an idiot.

She had done her research on Dr. Frame’s character and her work, but no amount of research could have told Cora how attractive she would be.

Her dark brown hair was pulled into a loose bun at the back of her head, leaving nothing to distract from her bright blue eyes that looked like the ocean on a clear day. Fine lines around her eyes and mouth hinted at her age- 55 according to Cora’s research. Her lips were the pinkest of pinks and her body was petite and delicate under her blouse and skirt.

Cora wasn’t as standard into older women, but she certainly was into this one.

Well, this is a curveball.

Cora struggled to compose herself. Okay, so Dr. Frame was the most beautiful woman she’d ever seen. She could handle that. She was going to need to handle it quickly, because she was rapidly making a fool of herself here.

“Dr. Hope? Did you hurt yourself?”

“N-no,” Cora stuttered, quickly getting to her feet, righting the chair and collapsing into it. Dr. Frame was looking at her with concern, and Cora forced herself to take a deep breath and return her gaze, even though getting lost in those ocean-blue eyes of hers was not conducive to pulling herself together.

“I’m sorry to be so clumsy. I’m not a clumsy person, obviously. I’m a trauma surgeon. I guess I’m just nervous. If I get this job, it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me. I’m much better, you know, in the thick of the action. I’m very focussed and sure-footed in the thick of the action. ”

Dr. Frame gave her a kind smile. “Entirely understandable. You’re not the only candidate who has been anxious about the interview. I had one so green, I was sure he was about to throw up.”

Cora knew she should probably laugh along with Dr. Frame, but she was so distracted by the pleasant sound of Dr. Frame’s laugh that her throat went completely dry and she couldn’t make a sound.

“Well, Dr. Hope, I must say that I’m impressed with your resume.”

“Thank you, Doctor Frame.”

“Can I call you Cora?” she asked, her blue eyes intent on Cora’s. Cora felt like she was melting into a puddle on the floor. She felt more than a twinge of desire between her legs.
