God, these men and their gifted, explorative fingers.

I’m beginning to question how I survived six weeks in their sanctuary of rules and hadn’t fucked them to oblivion.

Zander and Ares. Not Domino.

I wasn’t expecting him to make any of this agreement shit easy. Why would he? I’m his mortal enemy, entering his oasis and playing house with the comrades he doesn’t even defend when they need his assertiveness and protection.

Then again, maybe he’s only now realizing that I’m in his space, stealing the attention of those who gave him their loyalty for their own personal benefits.

I can’t figure him out, but from how Ares understands things, I’m on the right track. Acknowledging that Domino is used to being a puppet. That he doesn’t realize he’s being wheeled along by those who never want to give him a spotlight of power, to begin with.

His Father is one of the rooted problems in that complicated equation.

A whistle draws my attention to a guy approaching us.

“Holy damn. The Ruthless Kings,” the man declares with a hint of mockery I can’t ignore. He’s looking at me first, taking me in from head to toe, though his eyes specifically land on my breasts. “So this is your new Maiden, huh?”

Ares is not only up but blocking the view between me and this man in question. Zander, on the other hand, is pulling me closer to him, as though I haven’t been pressed against his side all this while.

Intriguing response.

Publicly protecting what’s theirs means this man could be potential competition.

“Moonshine,” Ares greets, but the sound is completely cold.Heartless.“Didn’t know you were invited.”

“Me? Not invited now?” Moonshine laughs. “If that Scarlett slut can be invited to these commoner events, I can get in without blinking an eye.”

Guess he doesn’t like Scarlett, huh?

“Scarlett’s empire has risen the last few months,” Ares acknowledges, which isn’t like him, but I feel as though he’s playing some sort of game.

“Barbieri are still amateurs on this glass chessboard,” Moonshine huffs, lowering his voice. “Honestly, it’s about time someone else steps up to the platform and makes everyone quake out of place. Maybe half of these poor douches will stop acting like they worked hard for the wealth they obtained for simply being the faster sperm in the pool of useless cunts and bastards.”

Does this man have a vendetta against the world?

“Where’s your fearsome leader? Heard he’s been slacking lately.” Moonshine chuckles at his own words. “Losing his cool and killing guards in dining halls. The tea flooding the underground is rather interesting.”

I hide my frown by taking a generous sip of my wine. I don’t want to react tonight. I’m doing my best to lie low in my femineity and not try to stand up for these men who are being watched by so many.

Crazy how many individuals here must think we’re so foolish not to act our part in a public place as cunningly cultivated as this. Those in powerful positions are surely hidden among these teens and young adults, who are giggling and talking nothing but shit in the masses.

Distractions from those being paid to listen and gather information.

From my own little royal façade of a family, I’ve observed enough to know how this works.

Observe and play along.

Let your ears listen to every whisper of gossip or pleasure. Allow your eyes to capture the fine details and even bigger distractions. Use your mind to put the pieces together, so you know how the real enemy is hiding in beautiful velvet and hidden in the shadows of fake smiles and bragging company.

“You keep up with sports,” Ares points out like it’s such an obvious fact to know about Moonshine. “He’s probably being offered another NHL contract that he’s going to refuse unless they give him a really big offer.”

“Rejecting contracts when he can’t even secure the captain's position of his own team,” Moonshine mutters in pure merit. His eyes glimmer in amusement at the spoken comment.I’ve never seen Domino on the ice thus far.“He really enjoys gambling with opportunities that can be stolen from his grasp without a blink of an eye.”

Moonshine shakes his head, yet those oddly chocolate eyes are taking me in yet again.

“So, how long is this Maiden going to last?” he ponders and tilts his head to one side. “Different from the others in the past.Though you Ruthless Kings are more unique than the previous years.”

I feel Zander’s tense shift in his body while Ares’ movements look rather robotic as he shrugs.
