“MY EYE!” Scarlett screams, grabbing the attention of a few of the guys waiting at bay for her to finish her business with us. They rush to surround her, covering us from whatever the fuck was wrong with her eye, but I see Zander and Ares are already moving, rushing to find Iva.

I don’t know if it is the shift in the atmosphere or seeing them race to the halls that are flooded with females rushing for the exit that makes my heart skip a few beats.

Ignites a level of fear through me.

Before I can acknowledge it in my own mind, I’m already down the narrowed hall, pushing anyone away who’s slowing me down. When I find Ares, he’s in the empty female washroom, staring at the broken mirror and the sink that’s stained with droplets of blood.

“She’s not here,” I stress to Ares, but he still won’t move.

He’s trying to tame his breaths while his eyes are darting across the room as if he’s going to find a clue.

“Ares,” I emphasize his name again. “She’s not fucking here! Let’s go.”

“She was here.”

He’s shaking in place as he stares at the broken reflection of us. I don’t know what’s running through his mind, but he looks feral from the intense gaze that consumes his darkened eyes.

“How do you fucking know she was here?” I argue, hoping he realizes how stupid he sounds.

“For someone who made it his mission to bully Verena to the point of leaving cigarette burns on her flesh, you don’t remember how she fucking smells?”

How she smells.

I try to sniff the air, but there are so many fucking scents here.

“Fuck, it’s a bathroom! Besides, I’m not a fucking aromatherapist!” I argue.

Ares is in my face, making me flinch back, thinking he’s about to punch my face, but he’s dangling something before my line of vision.

Strands of hair…

Silver hair.

“Iva’s…”

“She was here, and there’s a big fucking chance that’s her blood along the sink and mirror,” Ares snaps and pulls out his phone. It doesn’t even ring before the line is picked up and is blasting on speaker.

“I’m trying!” Warren’s voice snaps before we can get a word.

“She was taken?” Ares declares and he’s moving around me and heading back to the hall.

“Yes. Probably knocked out or drugged. I’m trying to locate him, but I don’t have a tracker on V.”

“Why the fuck not?” I question.

“Last time I checked, you didn’t give a bloody shit about her!” Warren snaps right back. “Weren’t you with Barbieri entertaining her minutes prior?”

“Shut the fuck up!” I snap at him while Ares is now running down the remaining steps of the hall and turning the corner to the side exit. “You don’t know fucking shit.”

“I know you’re a fucking pawn, and there’s nothing ruthless about you!” Warren snaps. “I swear if V’s hurt in any fucking way, you’re paying for it!”

“You’re the paid bodyguard! You’re the one who should be pinned with the blame.”

“YOU ordered me to keep an eye on Miss Barbieri tonight instead of Verena because YOU got a text saying she was going to be a prime target!”

“What?” Ares skids to a stop the moment we’re out in the alleyway. By the time I’m out and fighting for breath, I’m being slammed into the cement wall, Ares’ face mere inches from mine.

Fuming with rage.
