“Zayn,” she uses the name I’ve never heard spoken with so much admiration. “I want you. Quietly, though.”

For a moment, I acknowledge the hint of disappointment, but I realize she’s not done from the way her thumbs stroke the flesh of my cheeks, which feel far too hot.

“And… between us…” She needs a few seconds, her face beginning to go crimson as she stutters with her own words. “Um… I-I… want you beyond just a… Ruthless King.”

Fuck.

I’m waiting to hear the lie in her words. For the warning bells to go off and warn me that she’s a using cunt, just like Scarlett and all the other hoes who entered my life with every intention of ruining it.

The problem is, I don’t sense a hint of it.

She’s not lying…

“You… like me?” I say with disbelief because I can’t comprehend such a manic idea.

“If I say yes, will you use it against me?” she offers.

“No.” I mean it, which is why I answer straight away.

“Then… I may just like you, Zander,” she mutters. Her face is so damn red, I wonder if she’ll pass out. “Do you like when I call you Zayn?”

“Yes.” Here I am again, spitting the truth as if she’s earned it.Maybe she has. “When… it’s just us.”

“Okay.” She understands. “Where does that lead us?”

She’s thinking about the future. Envisioning something between me and her in another time beyond the present…

“Dolcezza. You’re not pulling my leg, are you?”

“No.” She means it. I see the truth in her eyes as I hear it in the root word. “I don’t gain anything from falling in love with you, Zayn. Maybe I’m just horny. Or the fact I’ve never confessed to a man before. Heck, maybe this is all wrong for me taking the lead, but?—”

I shut her up before she can go on a tangent of words that mean nothing to me.

All I care about is her acceptance.

The display of loyalty.

Her want… for me.

Breaking the kiss when we’re desperate for oxygen, we both catch our breaths while I stare into her dilated eyes.

“Domino can’t know,” I say when it finally kicks in that she means everything she’d declared.

“Okay.” That doesn’t seem like a hard thing for her to do. Not with him avoiding her like the plague. “Ares? Warren?”

“I don’t care about Warren.” The bodyguard wouldn’t say shit unless it favors him, and as of now, nothing really benefits him aside from his need to watch Gemini like a hawk. “Ares… maybe. When I can get him out of shit.”

“Ares is in trouble?” She looks confused, with a hint of worry.

“No, he’s not in trouble,” I say quietly as I debate whether I should admit my initiative. My desire to get him out of the contract.“What if I said I’m trying to get his signature off the contract we signed?”

“I’d say you’re crazy,” she admits with a slight smirk. “But you know that already.”

“Just like I know you’re delulu for admitting you want me,” I mutter and try to avoid her gaze. I don’t like how she can read me so easily. At least, a part of me doesn’t like it.

“Zayn.”

Fuck.
