Then two.

Now, it’s hammering like a sledgehammer.

“What?” I try to keep my voice low while I turn my head enough to acknowledge her. She’s wearing a slutty outfit—those bandage dresses that show way too much skin and are far too short—in hot pink. It’s not like I’m not into those dresses, but it just doesn’t fit her disproportionate body, especially in that neon.

God… maybe it’s just because I’m more interested in a woman with smaller boobs, a thinner waist, thicker thighs, and long silver hair…

“You heard me, Albrecht.” I can tell she’s not lying. She doesn’t gain anything from lying if someone is paying her big ass money to reveal a deal that’s just been solidified. “We signed thirty minutes ago.”

“Nice to know Mr. Leighton wants an alliance with your empire,” I announce and look away, hoping she’ll go away. I don’t give a shit about Mr. Leighton’s world in this gambling wage of assets and combined wealth.

Has nothing to do with us.

“Mr. Leighton didn’t initiate it.”

I frown.

“Domino did.”

I’m positive she remains silent to allow those words to sink in. That, or she hears my loud as fuck heartbeat that’s trying to kill me.

“Why would Domino wish an alliance with Barbieri when he’s guaranteed an alliance with Prescotts with him destined to marry Prescott’s biological daughter when she reaches eighteen?”

There needs to be a better reasoning here.

“Well… there’s a bit of a loophole to that which I shouldn’t tell you, but since you haven’t gone to insult me like you usually do, I’ll be extra nice.”

This plastic piece of shi?—

“Domino signed a new contract today with me,” she begins. “It’s a marriage of convenience.”

Hold on… what?

“He can’t marry two women,” I emphasize and can’t stop myself from looking at her with annoyance. “Just because he signs a contract with you today doesn’t nullify the previous contract signed years ago with Prescotts.”

“You’re right,” she agrees. “However, that’s why there’s the loophole.”

“Which is?”No. How the fuck does she even know so fucking much?“I’m pressed on time here, Scarlett. Tell me like I’m fucking stupid.”

“There’s two names on the contract,” she emphasizes. “Thought Benedict was on there, but I guess he never signed, despite being a Ruthless King.”

I’m not shocked that Zander’s name isn’t there because the fucker knows how to get his name off anything. Man can erase his fucking identity if he wants to.

“So?”

“So… what happens if one doesn’t want the goods originally tossed to them?” she offers and tilts her head to the side. “It’s given to the one with the lowest assets.”

“I’m richer than Domino,” I remind.

“Yes,” she agrees. “Than Domino… but not the Leighton Empire as a whole.”

I can see the glint in her eyes when I frown deeply.

“You’re not trying to say?—”

“You have a selfish rat in the midst of your den of carnage, Ares.” I’ve never heard her speak so quietly. She takes a step forward and leans in, our faces inches apart.

There’s not a hint of chemistry.
