“A name,” I whisper. “That’s all I need.”

She swallows, and for a moment, all I can see is that hint of innocence. The frightened girl with her beautiful eyes that are sadly filled with fear.

“You can’t do it alone,” she whispers. “And you can’t tell Zander. Not… yet.”

Because he’d kill the man and ask questions later.

“Verena.”

“It has to be right,” she emphasizes and tries to smile, as if she wants to brush away her slip-up. If only she realized she didn’t admit something so traumatic just to use me. The rawness in her truth proved she felt comfortable enough to tell me.

To finally tell a soul…

Me.

Not that fucker Domino.

Not even Zander, who she’s already invested her trust in.

“Does Aries know?”

What would my brother do if he did?

She quickly shakes her head.

“No,” she validates. “He’d pull a Zander.”

I smirk.

Without thought, I pull her into a tight hug.

“No one should have dared hurt you.” I can barely get the words out. My chest feels so tight, in so much agony, thinking of the pain she must have gone through.

The pain, the humiliation. Being bullied by these selfish, childish fuckers.

A thought comes to my mind.

“Was it Domino?”

“No,” she mutters in my chest, hugging me harder.

I’m close. I know I’m fucking close.

Then it clicks.

It hits me so hard, I have to pull her back just to peer into her glassy eyes.

“Daddy Dearest.” I use the term because I’ve yet to determine if I’m killing Danny or not. I want to, but he could now be useful for a lot of things bouncing in my mind.

She tries to hide the flicker of concern in her eyes, but it’s far too late.

That’s why at the dinner…

“It has to be right,” she repeats. “The right moment. When everything begins to crumble.”

I stare at her as my heart gallops wildly against my chest.

If I wasn’t holding her, I don’t think I’d be standing here.
