“Ah. So, you think I didn’t know, hmm? Of course, you’d be so fucking naive. You had to take after your mother because no child of mine is so fucking blind! I might as well take those out of your eye sockets and sell them to the black market since you won’t fucking use them!”

He lowers into his chair and takes a few deep breaths.

“What’s his name…” he ponders quietly. “Ah. Riccardo, wasn’t it?”

My whole body grows stiff from the all-too-familiar name.

“There it is,” Father whispers, catching my response like a hawk setting sight on his prey. “That’s why you bullied Eva for so long. She walked right into it. You and Riccardo. In the locker room.”

“I…”

“Don’t bother trying to deny the past. I know it all. That’s why when I told you to rough it up so Eva would want to switch schools, you took it to the next level. Took it to a level that I had no choice but to involve myself and clean up after the disaster you created. Again and again, having to shield you from the consequences of your mistakes. All for what? Now the gala is a week away, and I have to pull some more strings, so Prescott won’t come here himself and slice my fucking throat for having my way with our daughter.”

Our daughter…

“She’s… not of Prescott blood,” I whisper in hopes I’m right.

“What do you think it means for her to be your half-sister?” Father questions as though I’m lacking intelligence. “I knocked Iva up like I have every right to do as her Ruthless King. Shesurprisingly got pregnant, and voila. Eva happened. At first, I thought she could be raised here. It would be nice for you to have a sibling to be around, but when she was six, you did something. Something I told you I never wanted to see you do again, and that’s why I decided to sell her to the man I knew wasn’t a sick bastard as I am. Prescott.”

“I did something?” I can’t even recall what the fuck I did. “This isn’t making fucking sense. W-Why would you allow her to be our Ruthless Maiden?”

“Easy,” he says and smiles. “She chose with her own discretion to become your Ruthless Maiden.”

I still don’t understand why she’d go along with it.

“It’s a shame that you can’t acknowledge how smart your sister is. I’m beginning to realize what a dangerous asset she is. So fucking cunning and sneaky. Able to use her looks to draw those worthy of her presence into her net and have them wrapped around her finger without question. She takes from her mother, but that smart mind of hers and how she’s able to make things work in her favor...” He taps the side of his right temple. “That’s all me.”

“Well, what the fuck now? Whoever is flaunting that video around showed a picture of Eva on the fucking rink, unconscious, and said if I don’t get there by midnight, she’ll be nothing but body parts in my ripped-up jersey.”

Father frowns immediately as his eyes darken.

“What?” He doesn’t sound pleased in the slightest. “Repeat it.”

“Eva is unconscious on the hockey rink at Leighton U, in my jersey, and I have,”—I pause to take out my phone to see the counter—“forty-five minutes to get there.”

My father stares at me with an emotionless gaze that leaves me uneasy.

“Then why are you standing here?”

“Wh-What? You didn’t set this shit up?” I toss back at him.

“I may be sick in the head at times, but I wouldn’t be foolish enough to put my daughter on a rink for her body to be ripped to shreds and pin it on my son,” he summarizes while his fingers tap on the oakwood of his desk.

He only does that if he’s nervous.

“You care more about her than me, your son!”

“You’re the son I had hopes of being smart, talented, and powerful enough to take on my empire when the time was right,” he validates. “I never said you were my favorite child.”

What now?

“So you’re trying to say Eva is your favorite?”

“I’m saying that the only reason Eva would have a chance in claiming my empire is because she’s better suited between the two of you,” he declares as if it’s not that big of a deal. “The only advantage you carried is that you’re a male.”

I’m speechless as I stare at him, but he’s pulling out his phone and dialing a number. The phone rings once.

“What are you up to?” he asks and adds, “You’re the one taunting my assets with my dirty laundry.”
