When my resolve is clear in my mind, I begin to relax. I know this can be cleaned up. That I can wipe all of this away. I’d have to reach out to my old contacts. Make sure Danny gives me access to his old phone to acquire those photos so I can still blackmail anyone who wants to try to drag me under.

At the end of the day, this is what a Ruthless King of Carnage would do. Enjoy the massacre that’s about to unfold and bathe in the havoc one’s end will trigger.

My father wishes for the world to turn on me to teach me some sort of lesson.

Allow it.

Let his beloved daughter he sold for his benefit be the catalyst that ignites a war between all empires.

In the end, I’ll be the victor. I’ll make sure of it.

When her pleading eyes bore into mine, I can tell she knows my unspoken resolve. I see the threads of realization in those dilated pupils of hers, and I wish I felt a hint of pity for her.

Everything happens for a reason.

The universe knew I’d one day need her legs to stop working, which is why I punished her that day all those years ago. This is her end because of her stubbornness.

If she’d just been a good girl and run away from it all, she wouldn’t be facing death.

She turns her head at the approaching Zamboni, then she’s patting herself. Unexpectedly, she pulls out a little phone, one that looks like a satellite-type phone.

She swiftly dialed a number with her trembling hands, and she put the phone to her ear while her eyes meet mine.

Despite those tears that stain her flushed cheeks, I see the burning anger in those enchanting eyes as they bore into me with everything they have.

“Kian,” she says the name loud and clear, leaving me to frown, only to see her pull out something from her left leg and aim it my way.

I move for a second, and thank God I do because a bullet glides past me, cutting my cheek flesh.

When my wide eyes take in how she’s seconds from her death but holding onto her pink gun with boldness, I realize what she plans to do.

If she’s going down, she’ll make sure I go down with her.

The frightening part is the realization of why she called Kian.

He’d clean up the mess… no questions asked.

“I won’t miss again,” she vows loud and clear and is ready to shoot me blank.

“Fuck,” I curse and jump into the benches, only to hear a round of bullets.

“FUCK! ZANDER! GET TO HER!”

More rounds of bullets are going off, and I dare try to peek to see what’s happening.

Bullets are hitting the side of the Zamboni, while Eva is now shooting the machinery head-on. Round after round, she pulls the trigger over and over again until the last bullet fails to stop it.

She curses under her breath and looks back where I was once standing, but I realize who's approaching her.

Zander.

He’s racing toward her, despite not wearing skates, but he won’t make it. Not at his speed. I can tell with one glance, which is why I look back at Eva, to witness the way her teary eyes are focused solely on Zander.

There it is.

That flicker of admiration I always wished would be targeted my way. Never has anyone looked at me that way.

Not Scarlett.
