“T-Two times,” he stutters as he moves from where he was admiring Iva to standing in front of her with his hands slipping into his pocket. “I wasn’t made aware of the second incident.”

“The first incident wasn’t necessarily dramatic,” I jump to the point. “A bodyguard hired by a third party managed to come to the warehouse and survey the area without one of your guards noticing their presence. That’s already a breach in the contract we signed with you guaranteeing our utmost protection before the start of our academic studies.”

Ares sighs and puts his hands behind his head.

“Then there’s the obvious incident that just happened with an assassin being in our midst,” he reveals. “I barely caught it, and even though I did, our soon-to-be appointed Queen had faster instincts to apprehend the culprit with the help of her bodyguard than an entire fifty-member security team.”

“Fifty?”

We all look at Iva, noticing her disgust before she’s laughing.

Actually laughing.

“You must be out of your minds to be paying fifty members to watch this place when that half-blind man was able to infiltrate the entrance or backdoor, get into this side of the house, and set himself up nicely behind that exquisite statue in wait to shoot you three sickos and do whatever he wanted with me.”

“He was after you?” Edwin cringes at the idea, to which Iva just smirks defiantly in return.

“As you can see, I’m a captive princess in distress after surviving madness from these three ruthless psychos who don’t have enough smarts to realize what a fraud bastard you are.”

Zander is smiling from ear to ear while Ares is trying not to smirk.

Has them wrapped around her fucking finger.

“Iva.”

She pouts and slowly looks my way.

“Gemini,” she corrects.

“I’ll call you whatever the fuck I want,” I growl back at her. “Stop fucking talking. Just sit there, look fuckable, and let your Kings manage OUR business.”

“Oh, so I look fuckable, huh,” she hums in delight. “Fine, I’ll ‘behave,’ even though I’ve yet to sign any contract that forces me to obey any of you, but if you think he’s going to make things any better for you with fake excuses and apologies, I guarantee we’re going to be either dead or disabled by the first day of school with his weak-ass team.”

I want to pinch my nose and groan in utter frustration, but Iva isn’t done.

When is she done being a defiant cunt?

“Which, by the way, your half-sighted assassin is out of his cage and probably on the outskirts of Leighton, trying to get back into the ghetto by now.”

We’re all staring at her in surprise before I look at Zander.

He’s moving to my desk in five long strides, and with a few typing notions on the multiple keyboards on the desk, he’s cursing in Italian.

“WHAT THE FLYING FUCK! How did he escape?!”

“Wh-What do you mean?” Edwin’s looking paler by the second while Iva rises from her seat awkwardly. She takes a moment to look at the chair, which is a fucking distraction with how my t-shirt is stuck to the silhouette of her ass.

God… I want to fuck her so damn bad.

“Verena,” Ares’ voice is emotionless. “How do you know he’s gone?”

“Warren told me.” She says so casually while she’s staring at the chair like it’s such a hindrance to her existence. “Before you guys handcuffed me, obviously. Why else do you think I’d be handcuffed for so long without his interference?”

“He’s not supposed to interfere, to begin with!” I grunt, but we have bigger problems.Way bigger fucking problems.“Edwin. We’re paying you five million a quarter to keep us safe, yet your team can’t even keep tabs on a half-blind bastard?”

“I-I can look into it right awa?—”

My eyes widen when his words are cut off by the slam to his head with the very wooden chair Iva was sitting on.
