Not rare for me, but this isn’t a typical instance.

Watching her pause in finishing what must be her third sandwich makes me pout my lips. She can’t see it with me still wearing this mask, but I like watching her stuff her face without looking so…

Dreadful.

“Worried?” she counters and briefly lowers her gaze to the sandwich in her grasp. “Am… I even allowed to speak without your permission?”

Oh.

“You see this?” I point to the mask on my face, grabbing her attention once more. “When I’m wearing this, I’m your masked lover who’s allowed to care for you.”

What am I doing?

Dom and Ares tell me I don’t like to think before I speak. Life is so boring if I have to review the words I’m about to say before speaking them into existence. Double checking as if I give a shit as to whether my spoken declarations hurt one’s feelings or not.

Honesty determines who’s here to kill you or who is willing to tolerate your bullshit.

In Sweet Dynamite’s case, I think she no longer has the intention to kill us.

She may not have realized what I saw in her manic eyes back there in that dining hall. The way she was calculating everything, to the point I knew she had every intention of killing every single person in that room.

Including me…

“Masked Lover, huh?” she whispers. “Would that give me a sense of sympathy for you? Enough for me to have mercy when I’m in a bad mood?”

“Maybe.” Her thought process is unique. She speaks and acknowledges things in a different way than most.I like that.“You were going to kill every single individual in that room tonight, weren’t you?”

She pauses in taking another bite of her sandwich to look into the illuminating lines of these X eyes. She’s staring at me as though she can see right through this layer of protection.

I’ve yet to figure out who this mask is protecting. Her from seeing the true villain behind this façade or stop me from falling further in love with her.

“That’s not what you want to ask me,” she mutters.Clever girl.“So ask me the true question.” She bites into her sandwich, chewing slower while her eyes avoid mine. If only she could see the grin on my lips.

“Would you have killed me?” That is what I wished to ask.

“At that moment…” She trails off as she works on chewing her food. “I would have tried.”

“But?”

“But… if I looked directly to your face, I would have spared you.”

“Why me and not Dom and Ares?” I wonder. “You wouldn’t have spared your bodyguard who loves you.”

She almost chokes at that comment.

“Warren does NOT love me.”

“Aries,” I correct her for the thrill of it. “Would burn the world for you if you gave him a lighter. You wouldn’t even need to command it.”

“You don’t know him.”

“I don’t NEED to know him,” I emphasize truthfully. “He and Ares are only different in appearance and age, which isn’t far off.” I don’t know why it’s so easy to talk to her, but I enjoy it.I’m not walking on thin ice all the time like everyone else who treats me like a trending psychopath.“He’s miserable right now.”

“Good.” She has no remorse for him. “Maybe he shouldn’t participate in making me a fucking puppet.”

“Are you mad at me?” I wonder.

“What did you do?” She gives me her full attention; her alluring eyes make it hard not to get sidetracked.
