I need her—want her—scared to submit to this nagging need to take her.

“I’m the one who’s scared.”

When she peers up at me this time around, I stare at her with the emotions I fight to hide every chance I get. For once, I let someone see the truth of the madness that dances through mymind. For her to witness a perspective very few have ever earned to admire up close.

Before their demise.

That’s the problem.

I currently have no intention of killing her. She’ll walk into Leighton, carrying a piece of me I’ve shown to very few that still have a beating heart. It could be a blessing or a curse. A shield to protect me from my own list of enemies or a weapon to completely destroy me.

This is the most dangerous gamble I’ve dared to play, yet I don’t want to stop. I want to reach the end and unlock the ending that will determine my fate with this mysterious maiden.

The woman that can claim the attention of Mr. Leighton himself.

“You see me. Get me. Barely fucking know me. Yet… here you are. Naked. On your knees. Ready to bear whatever mark I wish to give you with a blade that will inflict nothing but pain.”

“Blades can deliver pleasure,” she makes a note. I can only imagine what she’s thinking. “There shouldn’t be anything wrong with me being able to ‘see’ you, Zander.” Her tense shoulders lower, and I see how she gives me a piece of her vulnerability as various emotions leak into her expression. “You were never meant to be invisible, Zayn.”

There it is.

What connects us…

The card of invisibility that no one else has been able to acknowledge exists.

Only those belittled to feel as if they’re worth nothing to this world can understand a hint of the frightening agony it leaves in its wake.

“Sit still.” I don’t say it as a kind gesture. I command it.

She does exactly that while I’m not only reaching for the drawer and pulling out the hand knife from before, but I’m now standing at the side of the bed, admiring her arm up close.

I’ve known what I’ve wanted to carve into her flesh ever since the thought popped into my head, but I didn’t think she’d stick around long enough for me to try it.

Even if she was forced to stay in our domain, I didn’t envision her going along with the idea. I envisioned her screaming, tossing, crying her heart and soul out.

As much as that turns Domino on or maybe entices Ares, it does nothing for me.

Torturing something that should be valued as precious only angers me.

The real truth is Domino and Ares know nothing of it.

Maybe Ares has caught onto tidbits of my displeasure, but then again, how many precious things do we share currently?

Only her.

At least, it’ll be written in stone tomorrow.

“You’re going to hate it,” I whisper.

“Maybe,” she admits, but isn’t pulling away. She’s staying still, like I ordered. “Only one way to find out.”

Despite her approval to go ahead, here I am again.

Stalling.

“Do you promise not to take those pills again?”

My question surprises her as she looks at me with curiosity.
