“We are good friends, and I would hope that my opinion counts for something. Trust me; nothing good comes from playing these games. I know because I speak from experience. I’m going to let you get back to work, but I want you to seriously reconsider hurting him even if you think he deserves it,” Bethany proposed before walking out of my office.

“I appreciate having you in my life, but I don’t want you to interfere with this. You have to agree that you’ll stand beside me with whatever I decide. You can continue to try to convince me otherwise, but it’s not going to do you any good,” I deflected in the hopes that she would see my mind was already made up and there was no changing it.

“As long as there is an open dialogue, I’m willing to concede on this issue. I’m still going to talk to you and try to make you see it’s not right to play with somebody’s feelings like that. Are you sure that you’re not still carrying a torch for him? You might hate him for what he did to you. That’s understandable. Remember, there is a fine line between love and hate,” she whispered with the door closing behind her before I had a chance to say anything in my defense.

I sat there debating and fuming and wondering what side of the fence I was going to fall on.

My attention was turned toward the huge television set connected to my computer. It would bring my client to life almost as if she was sitting in front of me instead of being a thousand miles away.

The connection was made, and her face had the complexion of a ghost. She was pulling at her fingers and looking around nervously. Coming into an inheritance was a huge responsibility. Most didn’t know what to do but she had the guidance of one of my other clients to push her in the right direction.

“Sandra, I know this is a difficult time for you, but I’m glad you took the time out of your busy schedule to speak to me again,” I said with the sound of hammering muted by the soundproofed walls. However, I could feel the vibration of the circular saw underneath my feet.

“I’m still not entirely convinced this is the way to go. It does sound good, but I don’t want to do anything drastic. Let’s call this dipping my toe into the deep end,” Sandra stammered with her body language telling me that she wasn’t very comfortable with having money at her disposal.

“The future isn’t written but my predictions usually pan out. It’s a good idea for you to get acquainted with the market before proceeding. I’m going to send you a brief and very detailed lesson plan. Tomorrow is another day. Let’s start with $20,000 in a low-risk financial venture. Give me that money, and I will show you what I can do with it in 24 hours,” I said with the knowledge that I was making a bold prediction at the risk of it blowing up in my face.

“That does sound better than the alternative of giving you millions of dollars. You have to understand this windfall is highly unexpected. I have people trying to encourage me to go one way when you want me to go a different way. I don’t want the Internal Revenue Service to get their hands on this money. I also want to make it work for me. Send me what you have, and we can discuss things in-depth tomorrow morning at this same time,” she said and was about to sign off, but I stopped her with a finger in the air.

“Let me talk to you in a language you can understand. I will lay out the facts, and you can decide the best way to approach it. This will take about an hour. I hope you don’t have any place better to be. I encourage you to listen carefully. I will be testing what you have retained,” I replied with one eye looking out the window to see him without his shirt on and beads of perspiration running down his chest.

It was difficult to keep my concentration on the subject at hand.

I went through my spiel and gave her options with risks that were low and others that were extremely high. With my guidance, I could give her a crash course. The one thing I wanted was for her to dip her toe into the water. There was no going back. She would become quite the sponge and want to learn more.

I wasn’t sure she believed me, but the proof was going to be in the next few days.

“This has been very informative. I don’t feel as nervous as I was when we first started talking a couple of months ago. Let’s do this before I change my mind. I look forward to seeing what you’ve accomplished in 24 hours,” she said before signing off.

It wasn’t long before I was consulting my book of stocks on the rise. There was one with a high yield return. Twenty-thousand dollars was more than enough to double and maybe even triple her investment in 24 hours.

That would’ve been the path of least resistance. I decided on something unorthodox with rumors of a merger about to take place between two juggernauts in the pharmaceutical field.

Nobody would recognize my genius until I gave them a small sampling of what I was capable of when they gave me room to breathe.

This was about careful deliberation and watching carefully. I was going to have to be diligent to keep her money safe. Every little fluctuation was going to have to be monitored closely. My expertise came from years of experience. I didn’t need an inside source feeding me information.

That was illegal.
