“I know, he’s an ass. You just act like one a lot.” She grinned as if it were a joke.
“That hurts, Harper.” Leo shot back her, comparing him to that man was not called for.
“Relax, Montgomery. You had the look from the beginning. Lucy was your sole focus. Why do you think you hated me so much? Because she did.” She calmly waved at a woman coming out of the room Kevin had come out of. The woman looked up and down the hallway and then headed toward the exit.
“I didn’t hate you; I just didn’t want you hurting her.”
“Ditto, man. I’m the oldest, which means I have to protect every one of my sisters. Even when they piss me off,” Harper said as a nurse came out of the room that Lucy was in and looked at them both.
Without a word, he took the door and let Harper go into the room before him. Maybe Harper would be an ally. At least he hoped she would be an ally, because being on the wrong side of a Lovely was not where he wanted to be.
