“Oh James…” I take it out. The diamonds glitter in the sunlight. “It’s absolutely stunning.”
“Just like you.”
“Smooth talker.”
“Come here.” He slides it onto my ring finger. It sits above my wedding ring perfectly. “I had them matched,” he says. “I hope it’s comfortable.”
I’ve never seen a stone as big as this in real life. “Oh God,” I say, “I love being married to a billionaire.”
He laughs and rises as I get up to kiss him. I lift my arms around his neck and slide my hands into his hair, tilting my head to the side, my tongue teasing his. Fireworks go off all the way through me, and I have to fight not to push him back into the bedroom and make love to him there and then.
Leia bangs on her tray with her toy, annoyed at not being the center of attention, and we both laugh.
“I’m going to cook you dinner tonight,” I tell him as he sits back down. “But I made you something, too.” I give him my present—a bookmark I’ve cross-stitched for him. It has my and Leia’s names on it, and it’s surrounded by hearts. He stares at it.
“It seems a bit silly now, next to your expensive gift,” I tell him shyly.
“No.” He brushes it with his thumb. “It’s lovely. Nobody’s ever made me anything like this before. It must have taken you ages.” He seems genuinely touched. He has so much money that buying clothing or a tiepin didn’t seem personal, and I wanted to make something for him.
I loop my arms around his neck from behind and kiss his ear, then whisper. “I’ll give you your final present tonight, in bed.”
His eyebrows rise. “Oh?”
I nip his earlobe. “I have a special garment.”
“Ow. Oh? Is lace involved?”
“Kinda. Let’s just say I couldn’t wear it out of the house.”
He grins. “Sounds amazing.” He catches hold of my waist and pulls me onto his lap, and we exchange a long, luscious kiss.
“I love you, Mrs. Rutherford,” he murmurs against my lips.
“And I love you, Mr. Rutherford.”
And we continue to kiss, while Leia chews her rattle, and the morning sun fills the room with light.
