He collapsed at the base, and didn’t move to get back up.

I was panting, and gasping. I choked on my own saliva, staring down at my still glowing palms in awe.

What… What just happened? I blinked, afraid I had imagined it, afraid the energy would disappear again… but as I searched internally, the wall that had been blocking me was just… gone. My power flowed through me, rubbing against my flesh from the inside, as if it had missed me, as much as I had missed it.

I stood up, and just to test it out, I shot another quasar into the air. It skittered and smashed through the thick canopy above, before disappearing into the black velvet sky. I grinned.

I was fucking BACK! HELL YES!

I squealed and did a little dance.

“Rycon! Did you see that!?” I cheered, turning to face him, suddenly no longer mad that he had just hunted me down like an animal. This must have been his plan the whole time. Push me into a corner and scare the shit out of me in the hopes it would trigger me enough to break through and reclaim my magick. Risky little game but it worked!

My cheers died in my throat when I found him still lying on the ground. My heart skipped a beat.

Shit.

“Rycon?” I asked again. Still he didn’t respond. I rushed over to him, dropping to his side. His chest was severely burned and he reeked of burnt flesh. Fuck The Origin… had I killed him?

Panic welled inside me and I began to shake. This was unacceptable. For one horrifying moment, I saw what my life would be like without him in it. I knew I would never be happy waking up everyday without the promise of seeing his face.

It hit me like a fucking quasar. He wanted me to let him love me, but I wanted him to let me love him too. I couldn’t do that if he was dead.

“Rycon!” I screamed, shaking him. Still, no response.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I went to press my finger into his throat, checking for a pulse, when suddenly, his hand was wrapped around my wrist so tightly I was sure it would bruise. I yelped as he pulled me down on top of him, before rolling over to straddle me again.

He was grinning, and his chest began healing before my very eyes.

“You didn’t think I was dead, did you?” He chuckled as I struggled to push him off me, but he snatched up my other wrist and pinned my hands down over my head. He was grinning so hard his canines were pressing against his perfect lip. I was annoyed that he found my distress amusing. I had been really worried. “Come on Kasha, you know I’m not that easy to kill.” He smirked and I scowled up at him.

“Fuck you, Rycon.” I snapped as he grabbed my face, pinching my cheeks beneath his fingers.

“Is that a promise?” He growled, before dragging his flat tongue over my puckered lips. I squirmed beneath him, and he chuckled again before pulling back. “What’s with that face?” He asked, his tone teasing. “You want me to stop?”

I hesitated. Did I want him to stop? He slid his hand down my side, and even through the armor, his touch made my skin burn with anticipation. “You have the power to make me stop, Kasha. You just blew me across the fucking jungle.” He grinned down at me, like me blowing him up was the best thing that had happened to him all week.

“Make me stop.” He dared, massaging me through the armor. When I didn’t, his expression darkened, and his smile widened.

“You don’t want me to stop, do you?” His eyes flashed. “Alright then. We’re going to play a game.” He purred and the way he said it made heat pool in my core. Suddenly, I felt short of breath.

He slid the hand that wasn’t pinning my arms, up the front of my suit, cupping my breast over the restructium. He paused, waiting for me to react, but I just stared at him with eyes so wide I felt like it was a miracle they didn’t fall out of my head.

“I’m going to chase you again, and you’re going to use everything in your arsenal to keep me from catching you.”

My heart rate sped up and I swallowed. “What happens if you catch me?”

“Whatever the fuck I want to happen.” He purred, his voice dangerous, but somehow, I didn’t think he would be trying to kill me this time.

“Do I get another head start?” I asked, and he nodded.

“Yes, but less of one, because you have your powers back and I know they make you faster.”

I swallowed.

“Here are the rules. Rule number one, you will not be wearing your armor. You can wear whatever you have on under it but that’s it.”
