I shivered, keeping my forehead pressed to him, daring to offer the quietest whisper: “I do.”

Iheld my breath and stayed perfectly still, half wondering if I had hallucinated her response. Guessing that she wanted more was a hell of a lot different than her saying it out loud.

“I don’t know how to do this,” she confessed when I didn’t immediately say anything.

“Do what, exactly?”

“I feel like I’m a mess and you don’t deserve a mess.”

“Maybe I like mess.”

She laughed softly and eventually lifted her face to finally look at me. “No one does, at least not for long.”

I smacked her ass, her pussy clenching around me as she squeaked. “Stop that. At least try to believe me a little bit. I don’t expect perfection out of you or anyone, and it’s not fair for you to expect it out of yourself either. Give us a chance without deciding we’re over before we get started.”

Luna tucked her face again.

“Related question,” I continued. “Do your parents talk to your sisters?”

“Not that I know of. Why?”

“So your parents not talking to you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them being shit parents if they’re not talking to your sisters either. It’s not about you not being important to them, it’s them failing to realize that the families they created are important in general, and that’s definitely a them problem.”

“I guess I hadn’t thought about it like that before.”

“I feel like you take a lot of stuff personally, and I’m not saying that as if it’s a bad thing. Having no-contact parents is a personal thing, but it’s not your fault. As for Stella, some people don’t learn until they’re up to their eyeballs in shit, and that’s not your fault either. You should’ve never needed her to step up to begin with because that’s a parent’s job. But I completely understand why you would feel like she chose Rodney over you.”

Luna reached over and hit the release button on the toy, climbing off me to tuck against my side. “I don’t wanna talk about him while you’re inside me. It’s too weird.”

“Fair enough.” I laughed and removed the toy, setting it aside so I could curl around Luna. “Have you ever thought about talking to a therapist about your relationship with Stella?”

“I’ve thought about therapy for a lot of things,” she replied. “I don’t know. You know how bad I am about sharing things with people that are close to me, let alone talking to a stranger.”

“I might have an inkling about that. The point is that it’s never too late. If you think your own peace might be helped by it, it’s worth looking into.”

“After the heat. I promise.”

“That’s good enough for me.” It wasn’t a magic fix, but I hoped it would help. She didn’t deserve to be in as much pain as she was.

“We should be eating right now.”

“Are you okay with me getting out of the nest to get something?”

“Text Auggie. I don’t want you going anywhere.”

I fished around from my phone and messaged him.

A few minutes later, he was plying us with drinks. “The food is in the oven, but it should be ready soon. How are we doing on aliveness status?”

“Better than expected,” I replied.

“I’m okay, just thirsty.” Luna sipped her drink, still snuggled against me.

Most of my modesty had deserted me at this point, but I still adjusted a blanket so Auggie didn’t get an eyeful. While we waited for the food, he tested our hormone levels again and recorded the data.

“You can have more booster in four hours,” Auggie told me.

“I’m going to bake you so many treats for helping us out.”
