“I have to tell Stella about the club and Luca. I guess I should tell my other sister too so she doesn’t feel left out, but she doesn’t know anything about this, so that’s not really awkward. I have to tell Allie, which means we have to tell Sidney. I have to tell Nicky and then Luca’s parents. Anyone not on that list can find out by necessity or seeing us together.”
“That feels like an okay order to me.” Luca nuzzled me softly, taking a deep breath before relaxing more fully into the nest.
“I don’t have a time limit for this, do I?”
“I don’t think so,” said Luca.
“That’s good. Otherwise I might have to gather everyone together, shout it out, and run away forever.”
Both of my boys laughed.
“You’re doing great, bestie,” Auggie assured me. “Worry about your sister for now, and you can panic in my direction as you work on the list. Don’t think about weaseling out of it either. I have it written down now. And on that note, I’m gonna head to bed. I will see you two in the morning for your last babysitter-approved breakfast.”
When I ended the call, I let out a sigh, trying to relieve some of the tension in my chest.
“What can I do to help?”
Of course Luca would ask that. I beat down the thought that I didn’t deserve his help. If I didn’t do it, Auggie would do it for me.
“Could you skip a Marino dinner and come to one at Stella’s?”
“Tell me when and I’ll make it work.”
“Okay. I don’t even know what day it is right now, but maybe tomorrow I’ll ask her if I can bring someone on the next Sunday after we’ve had time to rest.”
Luca kissed me within an inch of my life and smiled down at me. “I can’t wait.”
Iwoke in the middle of the night with an epiphany. I’d been turning over the question of how to deal with Rodney, and when the idea had struck, it had pulled me out of a dead sleep.
Luna:
Walter was one of your regular clients, wasn’t he?
Auggie:
Why are you awake??
But yeah, he was

Luna:

What’re the odds of Arthur letting him be reinstated if he helped clean up the mess he made?
Auggie:
Girl, I dunno
Arthur is an enigma but I bet if you asked nicely he might since he banned Walter to protect you
Luna:
I’ll ask for a meeting
