“When are you going to tell Mom?” Sidney asked Luca.

“Preferably not anytime soon. I don’t know if she’s gonna cry or not. She still gets upset every time I leave to go back home instead of going to my room at the house.”

Sidney sighed again, the sound of a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. “I’m sorry. I thought she’d be okay with everything by now, but I guess it’ll take a while longer. Makes sense that you would want to wait. If she finds out you’re involved with someone, I think she’ll finally have to accept you’re not coming back.”

“Yeah, I’m going to avoid all of that for a while,” Luca replied.

“What about Nicky?” Sidney asked.

“Would it be bad if we told her on her birthday too? It’s less than a month away.”

“That would probably be fine.” Allie quirked her head, looking at her husband. “She’s been so busy. Would be nice to catch her on a break so she has time to properly appreciate this momentous news.”

“How exactly is this so momentous that we need occasions?” Meg asked.

“Luna’s been scant on partners for as long as we’ve known her, and the same is true for Luca. Mama Marino said he hasn’t dated since high school. This is a big deal.” Allie looked all misty-eyed at the two of us. “I’m sorry. I know I said I wouldn’t say anything. I’m full of feelings and I can’t make any promises that I’ll ever stop being full of feelings about this, so it’s better for everyone to get used to it now.”

I laughed, shaking my head. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“So, when do I get to see you on the pole?” Luna asked, her face poking out of the blankets on my bed, the rest of her obscured in a mountain of fabric.

“I don’t think I’m good enough yet.”

“I don’t care if you’re good at it. I still want to see it.”

“Oh, I get it. You just want me to embarrass myself.”

Luna snickered and disappeared under the blankets.

I dove under with her, snaring my arms around her and dragging her close. “We could call Auggie and see if he’s up for a practice session?”

“He’s doing classes at Miss Dazzle’s right now,” she replied. “We could go over and visit anyway. You could hop on between classes.”

“You really want to see?”

“Hmm? Do I want to see my boyfriend barely clothed and showing off his athletic prowess on the pole? That’s a super tough question, Luca.”

I nipped her playfully and she squawked, wiggling around to escape.

“Where do you think you’re going?” I flipped the blanket off us and pinned her hands above her head.

She purred quietly, staring up at me with wide eyes, the perfume of her slick filling the air. “Absolutely nowhere.”

“The perfect answer.”

Now that Stella knew all about us, Luna freely stayed over without worry, and I could disappear to her place without a single question being raised. Our one night a week from the start had turned into nearly every night. We caught hours where we could, between our plethora of ridiculous work hours and obligations.

Luna’s phone rang on my bedside table and she pouted at the interruption. “Who is it?”

I glanced at the screen. “Stella.”

She sighed and sat up after I let her hands free. “Hey, Stell. What’s up? I’m downstairs with Luca. Do you want me to come up? Okay, sounds good.”

“What’s happening?”

“She heard from Rodney again. Put some clothes on.”

“I’m invited?”
